Just be careful of the types that frequent them. For mine, the local scene is MTG, but there's a decent variety of political views at my local coffee shop/card shop. As such, I keep it limited to just the game, tourney, pre-release, or whatever. I don't talk politics because I don't feel like getting dirty looks over a card game.
