Forgive me for asking a stupid question, just wondering because I've never had my first kiss before, and I really don't want to mess it up, but why is kissing with your eyes open made such a big deal? Like is it awkward? I thought eye contact during moments like this is intimate correct me if I'm wrong please, but what's the genuine issue with it?

It's not realy important, but when you kiss someone on the lips deeply, you can't look them in the eyes. Your noses get in the way.
So instead of just staring at whatever's behind the person you're kissing you close your eyes to focus on the sensations you have.

It's not a matter of shouldn't but can't, for the most part, due to the aforementioned nose issue. Some people do feel nervous or awkward when kissing so they don't want to have their eyes open. The same sorts of people have sex with the lights off.

Just keep in mind that nothign is absolute. There is a right way to do everything and that includes kissing with your eyes open. If the moment is right and everything feels copacetic/natural, you'll feel it and so will he.
