The symbol/archetype of the frog is supposed to be a being that can jump between worlds. Biblically many frogs is seen as a plague. The long tounge might suggest a powerful message or an amplification of voices...

I think they adopted the frog in solidarity with one of the protesters who had pepper spay sprayed into his air vent.
Here is the thing, I'm sure you could trace it all back to having a reason but I don't think that negates the spiritual aspect of what is going on. For some reason the symbol of the frog has been very active in the collective unconscious of humanity. Perhaps there is some sort of deeper meaning to it?
