You should. You're so smart you should get into politics.
I think it's time for a geopolitical history lesson. After WW2 it was very convenient for the peace to be built around NATO which basically meant the U.S. It was in their interests, and still is in their interests to make nations host them. Because this way they're dependent on U.S. Very handy indeed, because they would be able to extort those nations for all kinds of deals. Countries would have to operate in a manner which meets U.S economic and world view requirements, or otherwise they would suddenly have no militaries and would get pushed around by everyone else.
There's no denying it. This has been a success story for U.S, building the collective "west" in a similar manner as Rome created the Roman empire. It is an empire! U.S. had an empire.
Now. Lets go back to the current year. The orange man is doing U.S a massive disfavor because among other things the orange man is making it's block of countries, which it controls, independent. It's against everything U.S has been working on ever since WW2 and which the nation's superpower status has been build on. Very stupid indeed, if such a country intends to have it's client countries under its control.
Does it make the EU officials shit themselves? Yes. Absolutely. But in a similar manner as a CIA asset in Afganistan shits himself after learning that the U.S is leaving. It's not bad for the countries, it's bad for the people in power. It's not a punishment. Because again it means freedom instead of servitude. Especially because this disconnecting from the host nation isn't practically doable from the client's side without severe repercussions... that's why everyone's been taking it up the ass for the past 80 years or so. The host nation should NOT want that from strategic point of view, it's self-destructive. So it's only doable from the host side. Which is what orange man is doing because he's a walking disaster.
