This kid just got sentenced to 65 years in prison in the USA for accidentally killing a family of six Indians (vehicular manslaughter with possible cannabis intoxication, and none of the Indians who got killed were wearing a seat belt)

How crazy is that? He won't get out until 2090, think of how different the world will be then. all because he killed a few subhumans who were too stupid to wear a seat belt? It's not even 100% certain that he was intoxicated, they just found THC in his system.

Luke Garrett Resecker deserves a reduced sentence. You can't tell me this kid deserves to be in prison until 2090. The world will be fucking Blade Runner at that point! It's too long for a White kid to spend in prison over a simple mistake!

I'm assuming Resecker was wearing his seat belt? The Indians should have been wearing theirs. I think that should be somewhat of a mitigating factor in sentencing.

I have mixed feelings about sentences that get longer depending on random factors like who survives a car accident and who does not. It doesn't take negligence or intention into account. This seems to be a case where the jury was highly sympathetic to the paralyzed survivor who lost six family members and increased the sentence accordingly.

If the same accident had occurred, but Resecker had killed someone who was driving alone, would he deserve a shorter sentence? Why? Does he learn that causing car accidents is wrong more after ten, 20, 30 more years? No one gets brought back to life. The court has to have some limit on the amount of revenge the paralyzed guy deserves to get.

I would like to know if there is an explanation for his drifting into opposing traffic. Did he pass out or something?

Did he show remorse?

I'm sure his appearance doesn't help. The guy is unfortunate enough to look like a real asshole no matter what he's like in real life.

I would think his lawyer must have really sucked to have not been able to get a shorter sentence. Maybe the sentences could have been made concurrent.

THC metabolites stay in your system for a month or more and it wasn't proven that he was high. The drifting into opposing traffic seems like something an intoxicated person would do, however.

I looked up the parole chart, he might be eligible for parole after 7 years, one month, 15 days. That's followed by 28 years, 4 months, 24 days of mandatory supervision. I'm not a lawyer, I could be reading it wrong.
