I remember early YouTube. It was fun until Google bought it.
Late 2023, my stepdad was in the hospital with covid and bitching about it endlessly on the phone demanding to go home (his wife is immunocompromised) and being abusive to nurses who were all evil Nazis who wouldn't let him smoke and abuse opiates. He could have got better in a few days but dragged it out a month because he kept pulling out his IVs and catheters and shitting his bed.
So my aunt tried to be helpful. She tells me I need to buy him an iPhone instead of the brand new Android he was using. The reason being, she just learned Apple has this brand new service called the You-tube (that's why oh you tee you bee ee) and it's like TV but they put videos on your phone every day. If I bought my stepdad an iPhone he could watch the YouTube.
I said I owned stock in the parent company that has owned it for like 15 years and it's natively installed on Android and he watches it about 18 hours a day. She argued with me it was brand new and iPhone only. She didn't know what Alphabet was or how Google could own it because they are just a website. It was like beating my head against a brick wall. She's nuts. So is my stepdad. Everybody managed to recover from covid though.
