FIV can be a death sentence but it’s hardly guaranteed, one of our cats had it for like a decade and a half and lived to be over 20

And one of my current cats has it, he was doing poorly for a bit, his kidneys were having issues and he was really thirsty/dehydrated all the time, we got some take home IV fluids and gave him some periodically and now he’s pretty much fine.

In my experience the first flare up is the sketchiest, but if you get him thru it they have a good shot at being fine. It’s not a guaranteed death sentence if you don’t feed him terrible food and help them through it

My cat got in a fight and had puncture wounds on neck, she healed up from it pretty good. 6 months later I found her after she was inside for a day and I noticed her food and water were untouched. Could barely walk and the last time I saw her walk was when I got near her and she let out a weak meow. Got her to vet next day and came back as feline lukemia and fiv but she refused to eat or drink. Didn't have the money for treatment so sadly had to put her down. Vets told me it would be 5k for a blood transfusion to get her back for about 3 days then would go downhill again and need another transfusion. Still gets me upset even though that was over 3 years ago.
Not going to get another pet after that until I have kids since raising a pet and losing it is a good learning experience I guess to teach about raising something and eventual loss.

Cherry plum flower essence. Add it to his food (and/or water) and/or rub it into his ear flaps (and the area of semi-exposed skin near the openings). If you can, find a glycerin based one. If not, alcohol based is fine. If necessary, try to figure out when he's gonna head out to fight. Then apply it to his ears before he leaves. Start with one drop per ear and work your way up until you find the minimum dose that calms him.
