British food isn't as bad as they say. I like to make dishes from all over the world. The British ones I've made are: Cornish pasty, meat pie and Christmas pudding. They were all pretty good. The only thing I didn't like is that the pie crusts can be way too buttery, to the point of giving me heartburn. If I reduce the butter to 3/4s of what the recipe says, its usually better. (It could just be that I'm not habituated to so much butter, having grown up in an olive oil culture)

I've never been to the UK to try food from the local shops, but the recipes I got from British sites are good. I feel like the complaints mainly come from jeet migrants in the UK who can't eat anything unless it's spiced to hell and back with garam masala and street vendor ear wax.

Traditionally you're not meant to eat the crust on a pasty.

Miners ate them, their hands were very dirty and the crust was there for them to hold and discard.

That's the most wasteful wrapper ever. Why not just put the contents in a cup and eat them with a spoon?

The steak pies are amazing. Was in Yorkshire 7-8 years ago and they invited me to a roast dinner and it was great, my friend's mom made those individual steak pies, I still think about them to this day.

traditional miners pasties used any leftovers from their meals the night before (could be literally anything), then put into thick pastry because it kept together and would stay hot for 12-24 hours iirc, and they are shaped that way specifically because miners would put them in their overall pockets to use them as hot water bottles until they ate them. The pastry was nothing more than a disposable container.
