If you had a choice between moving to Cincinnati, Chattanooga, or Pittsburgh - wanting to be close to mountains and nature, and to have access to medical care, but not in too big a city, which would you choose?

Columbus is better than these three options imo. Chattanooga is okay but way overpriced, you're better off living outside of Knoxville in Anderson county somewhere or even further out in Morgan county.

The nogs stay in their areas of the city, the only time you deal with them is if you go downtown and they're far outnumbered by the white kids going to the university. You won't see them in Upper Arlington.

Knoxville is ghetto, which is why I said live outside of there. It's fine to go to on the weekends in most areas and once again the nogs are well separated compared to Cinci. Oak Ridge area is super white and Morgan County and Roane county are both almost exclusively white.

I feel like the better mountains are in TN vs KY, though KY has a lot of nice stuff, don't get me wrong, I experienced briefly the Kentucky side of Cincin, it seemed nice.

And Pittsburgh just has like tons of cheap housing extending in all directions as well as highway access to mountainous areas. As well as tons of medical care.

But like Cincin and Chatt didn't seem quite as ghetto. I want to live in a place where the town seems nice too. I would also be ok living in a smaller town as long as I was 1-2 hours drive from a larger town that had proper medical care and specialty care.
But I kinda want an actual town, not just a home in the anonymous suburbs, you can get that anywhere.

Idk, I've lived in Cinci, Chatt, Columbus and Knoxville. Cinci was the most nogged of all, Chatt is somewhat nogged and has a pretty bad drug issue.

If you lived in Roane you'd be around 2 hours from Nashville and 30 from Knoxville. Also 1.5 from Chattanooga. Housing is also a lot cheaper and it's basically all whites.

Cincinnati had some blacks but it also had a lot of life going on - the businesses seemed active and thriving and the town didn't seem semi-abandoned like some do. Plus my guess is if you live in the KY side you avoid a lot of the blacks.

>>22861924
>and has a pretty bad drug issue.
It seemed like chatt had some random homeless drug zombies wandering about and a strangely large amount of like abandoned industrial/railroad facilities that the state/county/whatever refuses to demolish - sitting next to spruced up homes and businesses.

>If you lived in Roane
yeah but its just like generic suburbs and no culture at all - don't get me wrong the proximity to big south fork would be nice, I love that area

It's not suburbs though, it's just country lol. What exactly do you mean by culture? Harriman in Roane has a pretty well kept 1950s-ish downtown area. The culture in this area is camping, hunting, fishing, shooting, racing, church.

If you mean you want to live in a city with a vibrant downtown, then I get that, but it's not the burbs. Oak Ridge is burby. FWIW I see way more drugged out zombies in downtown Chatt than I ever have in Knoxville, the nogs are pretty separated there. There's plenty of nicer areas in Knox to live also, with an alright downtown area at your disposal and Nashville still isn't super far away.

I love that there's so much housing stock and there's obviously a strong local culture and beautiful architecture - but it does seem kinda abandoned and its the furthest away from southern pretty hills (though obviously much closer to PA/NY pretty hills which are nice but not QUITE as nice)

Pittsburgh feels like one big hospital for old people and there's less hipstery stuff than you would expect given the size - it's kinda the most old-fashioned of the cities I think. Also, they badly need to WIDEN the PA turnpike. It's insanely narrow if you don't have a small sedan. Gives me anxiety to think about driving it.

Kentucky seems really relaxed - I dig the vibe. Too bad about how disorganized the state seems and TN has better public land and hills. KY has a lot of strip mines and private land in the east. Very pretty, but you won't see much of it without an ATV (and ATV trails aren't even public land anyways, just easements, which is kinda fascinating given the "no trespassing" mentality otherwise).

Knoxville is sounding more and more like your vibe, anon. You'd be right between the Smokies and Frozen Head, close enough to Nash and Chatt, there's a decent downtown area and plenty of food. I don't personally love Knox, and I'm a native, but A LOT of people do. I don't think it's worth the price when I could live in Columbus instead for the same rent, but I didn't want to keep paying rent there so moved out to Morgan county TN.

Knoxville is kind of ghetto looking in the sense that it still has a lot of old warehouses in the downtown area, hence the whole scruffy city thing. It's not culturally ghetto though. If you are actually out spending money you rarely see black people. If you have the money to not live in the hood, you'd be fine, but you haven't said how much to can spend on rent. Rent is going to easily be 1200 minimum for a one room and the majority of Knox isn't walkable at all. Market Square is walkable enough but rent there will easily be 1500 if not more.

If you weren't so anti-burb I'd once again suggest Oak Ridge to you. You can maybe check out Alcoa area or something like that, rent will probably be a little cheaper.

If you want a trailer, once again, I'd consider living outside of Knoxville or maybe Powell which is where the trailer parks are closest to Knoxville. Morgan county is basically just living on a mountain. The "city" is Wartburg and the population is only like 900 which I wouldn't suggest for you, even though it's close to Oak Ridge and Knox and super cheap.

Everywhere is fairly socially isolating these days, anon. FWIW Oak Ridge has two pretty popular beer gardens with a lot of friendly patrons and the bars at both Aubrey's and Calhoun's are also filled with slightly upper class friendly patrons. There are a lot of Singo, karaoke etc nights and it's all mostly 24-40 year olds. Neighbors are friendly and talkative and the town is finally skewing a bit younger than it has most of my life. There are a lot of festivals that are mostly held at the park at the library with food trucks, music, crafts etc. There is a farmers market and things like that. Knoxville is 30 mins away and you can still get a two bedroom apartment at one spot in town that is only 800 a month.

But you don't like the burbs or the country and also don't have money to live in a city and I think are woefully unaware of how much a trailer actually costs (hint: it's usually just as much as rent at an apartment)

You are literally describing Oak Ridge, only problem is they don't allow trailers. But Rolling Hills offers a 2 bedroom with outdoor deck for like 850 a month, which is cheaper than a decent trailer anyways. If you are stuck on a trailer move to Oliver Springs area, do most of your weekly socialization in Oak Ridge and go to Knox on the weekends and Chatt or Nashville once in awhile as a treat.

What you want doesn't exist and you will have to make some sort of compromise.

Oak Ridge has a pretty robust medical system due to the years it was mostly old people living there. Literally just get a trailer in Oliver Springs. I'm way more left than most of /pol/ and I only mention that since it seems to matter to you, but Oak Ridge is pretty socially progressive. Unless you are hanging out with the old people at the bar at Gallo Loco, you won't run into them very much.

My genuine advice to you is to move to Oak Ridge, get an apartment at Rolling Hills, save up money and then buy a trailer somewhere nearby once you have scouted out the areas you like and what you dislike. At only 850 a month you should easily be able to save up.

There are things to do, you are close to all the mountains you could possibly want and if you settle for a cheap apartment and save the other 1000 or so in your rent budget, you will have money to put down on a townhome, trailer, whatever in no time.

It's socially progressive, has a robust medical system and everything else that you want, but you seem stuck on Shitnooga for some reason. Chattanooga has a decent balance of being close to nature, but it's turning gay and left pretty hard.

I can't afford medical care, I treat my work injuries at home and pull 12s in the Alabama sunshine. I'm gonna park my ass right here and send down deep roots. Gonna make a positive change in this country in sha Allah.

Pittsburgh sucks because of the economy and the people. Never have you met a more obnoxious, provincial group of inbred mouth breathers. They still think they are blue collar despite being terminally liberal and jobless for the last half a century. The Jews are a huge part of the population and are low class poor Jews, while still being as annoying as well groomed Jews.

The positives of Pittsburgh are the food and the low cost. The food is honestly amazing, they have authentic everything and only in Pittsburgh foods, and the food is cheap with huge portions. I gained 20 lbs living there.

Sorry anon, I'm listening. I will definitely check out Oak Ridge next time I am in the area.

I care much more about how pretty the hills are than any negative stereoypes about people (as long as it's not too ghetto, as priorly mentioned).

I guess I didn't mention I am also open to Huntsville Alabama. It's on the plateau, near the hills, and possibly not too ghetto. I've heard nice things.

Once a month we would get a water quality advisory that some chemicals plant had dumped into the Mon. You had to boil your water. Locals informed me that there was no chemicals plant, the city would store up the sewage and release it into the river and pretend it was a chemical plant that fouled the water.
