there's not much you can control, but you could try to do things with them, depending on how old they are

My Mom already died and my Dad hates me so I already have no parents. Nothing can prepare you for your Mom dying. I was just having a normal day, my sister calls me, which is unusual. I pick up and shes just like "Mom died." and suddenly everything is felt so different. I was now in a new reality.
