though i suspect it has to do with water quality
our water is high PH and probably alot of minerals and shit from old pipes, i never feel clean after showering
maybe you need softer water for the colors to leech from clothing

i am the same, and to add to this, i live by myself and i just don't go through enough clothes to do separate washes anyway.
