I thought that was a little crass considering zelensky originally wanted to negotiate with Russia, but was encouraged, on behalf of NATO, by Tony Blair to fight and that they would furnish them with weapons and equipment. That and the fact like a million Ukrainians have died fighting. It's all about real estate. There is hundreds of billions of dollars of investments and land purchases in Ukraine owned by western interests and they would almost certainly not be respected or recognized by Russia.
