While articles typically reference the oil company's (Cenovus) misrepresentations, I have secondhand information that the caprock layer of the formation is cracked, and that the leak is therefore not contained to a small area, but that produced water is surfacing in nearby fields.

This oilfield is currently SAGD, using steam to liquify and extract heavy oil.

Google has only 1 result, many here:

Does anyone know more?

Yes, the groundwater in the area is now compromised, likely unusable, perhaps indefinitely.

Per Cenovus, the issue is a single well.
However, unless it's a leak in the wellbore at the level of a fresh water formation, then the issue is permanent.

Injecting toxic chemicals into our groundwater is a stupid idea. Just go drill offshore. Itโ€™s less toxic.

Do more research to see if the regulators have on file the injection plan, and if you can get it see if they intentionally inject at pressures exceeding the fracture gradient. Its common to inject greater than frac gradient to create new paths for the steam to get get to the oil, heat it up, and then the water mixes with the now hot oil and it can flow back to the well for extraction. Excessive pressure and volume and create growing fractures up through any cap rock and allow the oil/steam to escape uncontrollably, especially if the steam injection continues. I do not know what the Canadian regulators are called, nor do I speak Canadian. If you can link to an english site I can help you review the technical documents.

curbstomp all supporters and people who profit off of gas and oil, and burn their bodies using the climate activists who shill their stupid fantasies of solar and wind as fuel
this world and society will never heal until we cast out these mental illnesses until we power every home and every car using the boundless energy from nuclear power plants
we could literally be running the world off of star power right now but we chose whatever the fuck this reality is
i think there is genuinely no group of people that will contribute more to the eventual collapse of civilization than they, and it would be in everybody's best interest to do everything in their power to cripple them before they steal a future from our children
