It's a fucking rainbow in the dark

So anyway I am brought back to this as I am waiting for my tea' to cool down which i really need, I really need my tea.

I was thinking that bascially, do I have enemies like this in the image? Or instead have like space devils, space demons, from outer space hell.

I was thinking that, all these interdimensional threats superheroes face, it kind of makes it hard for me to suspend belief sometimes because I think, would there really be that many evil threats out there? When there's, already the devil, who is the strongest and most evil of threats that already exists aren't they? So when enemies are interdimensional, magical, of supernatural, I kind of think of that "well what about hell"

But thinking about the concept of space hell and space devil I think there could be many other great threats out there in the universe and maybe the devil actually isn't overall as great of a threat as we think they are, because who knows.

But I was thinking, I can't include both of these types of villains, but I think maybe I can in actuality, because you need to include and come up with a number of villains and since Monsoon is a superhero, there needs to be a lot of different types of villains I can probably fit in both I guess.

Which is what I was struggling with before.

I am just uncertain as to how to portray these different forces in the world.

Basically there's three things. There's a can of force in the world not too different from Star Wars, but it's basically similar, the same as ki/chi which is featured in Eastern fiction as to explain super abilities. I was thinking about explaining it as something like 'soul power' to give it a more western slant.

Basically it's like 'A rainbow in the dark' in that, instead of just light and darkness, there are different colors of energy attacks which represent or have different properties, and they all stand for different things.

Like the jedi there is basically a light and dark side, but the "dark side"

Basically, it's not so much a "dark side" it's similar to star wars where it's not inherently or out right evil, it's kind of morally gray but there "dark side" equivalent in my story is like being more harsh, intolerant and brash, actually I'm not entirely sure how to make them outright differing from the "light" or other side.

I want to distance myself too much from religion and Christianity so here I'm implicitly taking a lot of influence from Taoism and so this here would basically be Ying and yang (the equivalent of dark and light side like in star wars) so I'm not sure how I want to feature the different colored energy properties but also, I I distancing myself from the notion that light signifies the holy and good and instead in my world there is just 'energy' like in taoism.

But there is a source of power that is the equivalent of outright darkness. Which will sort of be like depicted in kingdom hearts. So that's another level, but I won't show classical examples of "light" as much, but there will be light in this world bascially the equivalent of holy but I think it won't be explicitly stated or too obvious and heavily featured. I think that's how I'll go about it.

But don't know how to distance this source of power and darkness from the outright demonic hell like forces and entities. Because they would be the same thing would they not?

That's the issue I'll have accomplishing still not sure how to go about doing that

Sort of exicted about taking and mixing/combining ideas from Akira and Star Wars together. Basically I just have so much uncertainty.

One issue I've encountered is that I wanted Monsoon to be an unique example I didn't want his basic concept to be too common. I don't want it to be too much like Eastern mythology and fiction wherein there are a lot of characters who are able to have heightened abilities and powers due to their abililty to harness and use Chi/ki

So I'm not sure how to go about this exactly, I'm not sure at all what I want the main characters and villains to be like

One thing I didn't really want to do is have my characters be too powerful, I never really liked or cared for the idea of characters being super extraordinarily strong and powerful

Marvel is a lot more scaled down compared to DC, but even Marvel does this where it will every now and again feature extremely powerful characters. I don't know if people will go for or buy this aspect though, I'm not sure how the outlook is on that worldwide what the general consensus is if people wouldn't like characters that aren't impossibly strong but instead struggle

It's actually another thing I'm not really sure of, how adept, and not necessarily strong but how skilled and well rounded characters are.

Basically I feel like the characters being too powerful and strong often begins and becomes sort of the equivalent to mythology and these super powerful characters are basically the same as 'God' type figures, and I personally never really liked the worship of God's and dieties, and I never liked the idea of them being so powerful and it basically is the equivalent of that and so I want to so away with that whole thing. I never really liked God's or what have you. I don't know what it is about that, which appeals to people. But it just really reminds me of Zack Snyders Superman as an example, he's not fallible at all he is basically depicted as being a God

Zack Snyders Superman and Superman in general, apparently people like Superman because he's so powerful he almost never loses and never really struggles. The character Thor is a literal God. While I like Thor, I don't really like the fact that he is actually a God.

I guess an example would be the series Invincible, which is pretty popular right now. The main character struggles a lot and is at risk for losing all the time. A common almost trademark aspect of the show is that the main character basically gets beaten up really badly all the time. But it's still not a risk or threat to him because like the title says he's invincible. But maybe the shows there is a market for infallible characters.

I'm just not entirely sure where to go, want to look for as an example to use as guidance or inspiration for implantation. I guess it almost defeats the purpose because it comes with the territory of superheroes to be impossibly strong perhaps. What's the point of making them super powered if they're not infallible? If you were to stray from mythology what would that look like? Well, it almost makes me think of religion, for example Jesus by many is considered a God, but he is fragile and human. So maybe that's an example, but that irks me because I want to stay away from religion somewhat.

Its really interesting to think then and wonder what would happen if you were to distance yourself from religion and mythology? I don't know what the answer would be

Okay this sort of reminded me of how I imagined this single distinct group/race of people. It’s good for like inspiration, a mood board.

I was kind of thinking that like they would possess certain traits and aspects that make them sort of like this idealized group of people. But I was thinking maybe it would be better to leave them more mysterious and not go into too much detail because that’s usually how it is in my heckin Japanese manga.

Avatar is one of the few fictional representations of this like idealized race (or in this case aliens) of beings, that are kind of tribal, not highly technologically advanced. It’s one of the only depictions of that, so it’s interesting how it’s not done very often.

It’s just difficult because I think it’s hard to beat the Israelites in ancient history, in a real world setting it would be difficult not to mistake them as basically being a representation of Israelites, black people and indigenous people.

But that’s why I thought about presenting them as this idealized race personifying idealized traits that aren’t found as clearly in reality which would set them apart. I guess you could also kind of focus and present characterization and traits that maybe would have existed, but are not really focused or shown very much in the media, and the experiences that go along with it and elaborate on that.

But basically they would sort of be like Elves, I kind of like that because it’s a little distinct and hasn’t been done, like I might make them live in trees too, I’m actually not really show how they should live like what kind of homes if they ever have houses.

Basically I imagined them as being predominately nomadic, travelling from place to place, they are really talented and skilled at taking care of nature and plant life, so much they can basically increase and bring out fertility in the land and bring vegetation and plant life to life
In other wise barren desolate places.

So like ugh, I was kind of torn, I was thinking that they live within this secret hidden valley along with living remnants of other long extinct humans like Neanderthals and kind of little people, because there was actually a race of little homonids so I would include that.

But I was sort of also thinking like, including a totally secret preserve land area much like the 'savage land' but not necessarily with dinosaurs, so what's the point almost? I just like the idea of a hidden lush wild land, I'm not entirely sure how I would include that though.

I think also, they have a strong connection with animals, and keen senses, they are basically like Elves, except not near immortal or any shit like that, they don't necessarily live in a weird dream like state, they're still pretty human.

A lost wild group of people...

I was thinking that, they live primarily in their hidden valley but they like to travel and live in other places as a test, and journey to see what life is like else where and help where they can, but nit necessarily in a missionary like way or anything like that. I guess they would be closer to indegenious people then I expect.

Though again it would almost be a mythical idealized form or version, if that's really possible.

I was thinking about maybe making it so that they miss their home this kind of 'promised land' but instead of something like Israel which is basically desert land, their promised land is like this forest garden paradise they miss and feel disconnected from they long to go back and are always attempting to recapture this in some way and underline much of their traditions and folklore, it would be a big part of it, instead of another planet altogether necessarily, it would be the forest or whatever. Which I think, is never really done, I'm not sure why, if somehow another planet altogether is seen as superior or something, I'm not sure. I just wonder now why this hasn't been done very much.
