Immediately people realized the GD-ROM was just a slightly larger CD-ROM and you could just burn games to them. Partnered with cheaper and cheaper PCs that included CD drives and an AOL subscription, it was the most easily pirated console. Still to this day Dreamcast collectors don't have to go through all the hoops PS2 and GCN collectors have to go through to get pirated games on their original machines and there doesn't have to be a culture around it because you can just burn all the games to a bulk pack of CDs from Walmart.

That generation I owned every console except PS2 because it was so fucking shit. Any game worth playing on PS2 was better played on PC.
