If you're trying to find some kind of reason in emotional thinking you'll be disappointed. Men are capable of emotional thinking as well so let me give you some examples when men do it: "my better half", "I really lucked out with this girl", "my wife is the hottest woman in the world". Obviously to these men, they care about their woman and they say these things not because they're actually correct but because it feels good to them to say it. Their motives might vary, it might be that they enjoy the praise they get from their woman for saying things like this. But these men also know on some level what they're saying isn't like actually true. It's just a "nice thing to say".

So with this woman, she's not thinking rationality. She might have caught feelings for you for whatever reason back then. But when her peers disapproved, even if you were actually a good catch, because of how women view things through social status that does mean that you're not as good for her. Now the kicker is that maybe these women telling her might've even been scheming and telling her this for their own reasons. Maybe you or your friend weren't into them and they resented that and wanted to enjoy seeing you getting broken up with. I don't know.

What I do know is that because of how women think emotionally about everything: emotions come and go like the wind. That's normal. But it's obviously not a way to go through life. People need to plan their lives and not be led by emotions. That's where men usually come in. It should be the job of the father and then the husband to be the logical voice for women. To be the person that isn't just easily moved by *her* emotions and to keep the ship steady to where it's gotta go.

So the tl;dr is this woman likely didn't have a good father figure, drifted through life and now regrets it. She reminisces and feelings guide her back to you. Ignore her.
