Financially speaking, is tipping your landlord just a meme or is it actually beneficial? Would it make him reconsider raising your rent, letting you get away with more noise/pets or otherwise treat you with something extra?

This. Tip at least 20%. Only way to guarantee quick service, if something happens. About 10 years ago, when I first began renting, I didn't know to tip. The furnace stopped working in the middle of winter. Landlord waited over a month to come look at it and fix it. Very cold month...
