Am I still supposed to actually do work or just delegate work?

You should use your people skills to manage the people.

You have to look important and moralistic. You have to look like you always know what you're doing. In reality, all you want to do is go home and cry in front of cartoons.

I prefer Kung Fu management.
The higher you go in a company, the more skilled and intelligent the employee should be.
Op, you must do more work now than ever.
Servant Leadership. Look it up.

have you never played a video game or seen a Kung Fu movie? The higher you go up against the bosses, they get STRONGER, not weaker.

Depends. Are you a middle manager? Then you have to do work. Are you a boss? Then you manage the people below you and your own bosses above you

Most supervisors, managers and executives are incompetent. It is a good opportunity to gain valuable experience for a successful high paying career. Its more about leadership then management. Learn the mission/vision, performance goals and performance measures for the company, program, unit you work in. What is you group supposed to be doing (go back and figure it out, most people do not know or care and info is lost as it is passed down). learn about all your employees, education, experience, what are they doing, what can they do, are they working at their full potential for screwing around. As a superisor you have done work load ananlysis and made sure you have the right people. Never tell anyone all of the info you collect or all your analysis. Look, listen, don't say too much and let on how much you know, losers at your level or above you will stab you in the back because they see you as a promotional threat (its just the way it works). Imagine your self moving up higher in the company, or another company, how would you run the company successfully? This is pratice for that. You need to look to the future and be sure your team is ready for new tech, new practices, able to acheive more. Any of your staff give you any shit or are lazy get rid of them ASAP. You will be stabbed in the back, just be ready for it. Its just the way it is.

Delegating work/organizing labor, in itself, is work
