I'm still many years away from retirement and if the market stays completely flat from here, my salary will add around +30% to my portfolio by the end of the year. It's still a very big chunk,

I wonder how low that number must get before retirement makes sense. Like if you're working 50 hours a week to add less than 10% to your portfolio it might start to seem like a waste of time. Then again it does cover my expenses before I even start putting money aside.

conservative rule of thumb iirc is 4% drawdown, so for every 1M its like living off 40k a year. obviously you'll average more than that in gains but you'll also get shit on with inflation and if you get hit with a crash early on it'll hit harder

I saw a video on youtube recently which showed that even with higher average returns, a more volatile portfolio can fail in retirement if it has a bad start, because you draw down on it and when the good years come down the line you don't have enough left in it to recover.

I think they lost their sense of fear because the dip keeps getting slurped. Most indicators show severe economic strain and an imminent recession and the stock market still keeps testing new highs.

Everything is bullish until it isn't, but good luck timing when that'll happen.

>before retirement makes sense
Does your work provide you with health insurance? After you retire who will pay that? Health insurance can ben very expensive. So, in addition to work providing connections, salary, it allows you to accumulate more money to invest, and if you get pay raises you can accumalte more faster and retire earlier. You should run the numbers for your retirement expenses and inflation to figure out what your objectives are. After you retire you still work, just for yourelf, managing your money.

No one can predict returns and so on but the one thing that has always happened is that the market has always recovered. We're not 85 years old we can have the line go down for a bit, it'll come back before long.

Can you go global on the 401k or is it US only?

I was watching this dude's youtube video of what would happen if someone retired with $500k in 1996 and withdrew $25k per year + inflation adjustment.
The blue line is all stocks, the others are 70/30 and 50/50 stocks/bonds.

He would have been fine in the end, actually ended up with more money after 20 years in retirement. But he would have had to endure a 50% drop over 3 years in the dotcom crash and a 60% drop over 18 months in the GFC. If he sold in despair he was toast.
Imagine retiring at 65 in 1996 and then 12 years later in 2008, when you're 77 years old, you realize you might not make it financially.

Anyway long story short, just don't sell.

We may not see a massive Vol event from this, as a lot of the short Vol positions got BTFO during the tariff decline.
We are more likely to see a gradual (but still potentially sizable) decline in the indexes, with relatively low realized volatility.

It has to be said that the US economy is not in an amazing position for this.
We are late cycle, with high but falling employment, the US government is pursuing stagflationary policy and there was already a high risk of fed policy mistake.
Low oil prices had been one deflationary and pro-growth factor making things easier for the US and the fed and this has the potential to flip into a major headwind if those prices rise considerably.

The attacks on Iran are part of the discussion. Even if Iran agreed to anything they will still be attacked and defeated. Its much larger than Iran. If you remember Iran was the last of the seven countries W bush wanted to destroy as part of the US plan to ensure its global domination for the next 100 years (project for a new american century). Once defeated the new Irandian government will cancel the freight transport deal with Russia as part of the attack on Russia, will control any oil sales to china as part of the attack on China, and new oil/gas piplelines will be built to transfer oil and gas to Europe so Europe will stop buying anything from Russia to cut off all of Russia's sales to Europe. This is all planned for many decades and is continuing while Russia and China think they can negotiate with the US. How to trade the empire? That is the question - invest in US defense and oil stocks.

Iran also controls all of Iraq's oil sales since the American withdrawal - they already had some influence but now it's fully under Iranian control.

Iraqi oil is even more important to the world than Iranian, Iran only exports like 2mbpd and it all goes to China, heavily discounted due to sanctions. Iraqi oil is like 3.2mbpd and global.

So after invading Iraq and occupying it for decades they still couldn't control its oil? They had an easy time ousting Saddam since he had a tenuous grasp on his country to begin with but they obviously can't invade Iran the same way for many different factors.

How can they possibly hope to defeat it? Starve the populace by sanctions and hope they revolt? If it didn't work for NK or Russia then there's no reason it would work for Iran. And even if they did somehow take Iran how can they stop it from succumbing to Russia/China influence the way Iraq has succumbed to Iran's influence?

The whole thing is an absolute mess. If they block China's oil then obviously it would affect China's exports to the US and backfire hard on America as a result.

>Makes me wonder why China is being so passive towards US
Look to the leaders. The most dangerous are the psychopaths/sociopaths as they are calm, cool, confident and totally ruthless. The west is run by them. Russia and China are run by softees described by the US as ruthless. Putin has said repeatedly he has been negotiating and attempting to negotiate with the US but the US always lies, and still he tries to negotiate. Same with China. W Bush attacked the middle east. Obama was clear he positioned US forces to surround China. They see it comming but they are weak. Its their problem. The US, England, France will destroy them because they are weak. The most most ruthless become the leaders because the rest think they can talk. Tell the Elk to talk to the hungry grizzly bear about diet choices and nutritional planning.

They paid the $250 fee then asked for a refund because they changed their mind, then didn't want to pay the $450 late fee.

I got myself a CX50 Hybrid. Pretty great fit for me. Not sure I'd want to get Porsche SUV. IMO it's tacky and very stereotypically American to >MUH SUV! Porsche is known for their roadsters, GTs, and 911. That's what I'd get if I was buying Porsche. That's like those clowns buying those lambo/ferrari SUVs. 2022 was a bear market
Summer 2022 I remember Bitcoin was dirt cheap, and some tech stocks too - Facebook had gone all-in on VR and people panic sold

It was a great time to buy most things but the decline was "only" 20% because there was no official recession. Could be different this time as recession indicators are flashing red for some time now.

It was a good time to buy tanker stocks though, they were coming out of a multi-year bear market and the war coincided with what would have been a normal cycle, so it caused what people refer to as a "supercycle". Now the setup is already kinda strong so I don't know if they can skyrocket as much. Including dividends probably a 7-8x on some of these tanker stocks after Ukraine.

Anon, the current conflict started on the 49nd (7x7)th anniversary of the Yom Kippur war of the 80s. Of course things are going to be a repeat of what happened then. We've already got like 10% (more like 50-60%) headline inflation, just need that last surge in oil prices.

Remember to scoop up tons of copper, silver, and uranium near the bottom in a year or two

Here's something fun I thought about. Normally you want to use multiple timeframes to confirm a trend, right? Like using 1h/4h charts.
But when you use two MAs, that's effectively what you're doing. You can stick with the shorter timeframe (1h), and doing 50/200 crossovers means you're effectively using a 4h confirmation (200 ma)

>TA bros, what's the best SMA indicator to use? 10d? 30d? 200d?
depends on what tool you wanna use, in which situation
if you're trying to get a basic idea of where "the market" is going, you'd look at the 200 day moving average of S&P or QQQ. If it's above, then it's a bull market, if below then a bear market
"probably"
Use your common sense here, and backtest it using historical data
But you might be VERY interested in using a 5d or 20d for individual stocks, to see where they are moving more short term
then of course you have the death cross or golden cross when the 50d and 200d meet. This happens when its drops so fast that the 50d (which is more responsive) drops, while the 200d still has not caught up, so the two lines cross
That's using the 50d and 200d combined together.
So try things out, play with the numbers and the charts. get a feel for how the 10d, 20d, 50d, or whatever behave. And different stocks will behave differently. So there is no one way of doing it. It depends on the situation

Use the right tool for the job.

What is the current "plan" they're enacting? Seems like they're just aimlessly firing missiles into Israel like they always do in some kind of attempt to be scary, undoubtedly doing hundreds or even thousands of dollars worth of damage to several Israeli McDonalds and bus stops. Given that, no, I don't believe the goatfuckers ever have a plan other than maybe a ground offensive using their arsenal of "military vehicles" consisting of various mismatched pickup trucks.

why did you put a frog over the percent change. I can assure you however that it is definitely mispriced. there is no inefficency there. what you would really want to do is look at the bid/ask because it is probably showing you mid price, which is the middle of the bid and ask. It can be distorted by one side being retarded and putting a price that moves the middle price way in their direction. CBOE is required to provide some form of liquidity to options so the bid/ask is often automated. in particular the bots will schizo out sometimes and put silly numbers in to avoid assignment risks such as a big move or an indicator dinging them.

You need to use schwab for this really. I think youre gonna put yourself in a very exhausting rabbit hole. Since these are CRWV options (100% IV LOL) there is maybe a chance to scalp but you most definitely are not getting a fill. imagine it as bidding for a share of SPY at 450. I think we are saying the same thing so I'll give an example from this week.

I bought HOOD at 72 and immediately sold a 75 call (resistance).

Hood stayed just below 75 all week. Come Friday I close the call position and collect the theta decayed premium. Should hood go over 75 and cause my call to get assigned, I will have sold my stock at a higher price than I bought, so I make 3 dollar per share + premium profit.

If I sold a call at support (let's say 70) then I would have lost money since I would be forced to sell at 2 dollars less than I bought, and the premium received would not have covered the difference enough to turn in a net gain. Selling deep itm calls is used for running verticals or when you want to exit a position you have for a long time gracefully.

right. I see. you are right. Just writing the strike higher than what you bought at. I usually write strikes at what I bought them e.g. buy 72 sell 72.

Still you have very little downside protection with a higher strike and since robinhood has doubled in price in like 2 months and tripled in the last year you might heem yourself by bag holding a dump being caught in a CC write unless you are absolutely comfortable holding robbing goyim stock at 72 minus your premium.

One more to consider: GLNG

They have a unique segment of creating offshore LNG production platforms. It costs billions in capex and takes years to make one. They have some already in production and recently agreed to employ them in Argentina.

I like the company in general, decent moat, the fundamentals make sense, management seems good, but if Qatar cannot ship LNG out of the gulf that turns them from a good company into a rocketship.

Over the last couple of years all of Iranโ€™s proxies and allies have been taken off the board - Israel used 7th October attacks as an excuse to eliminate Hamas, then they bent Hezbollah over and fucked them so hard they wonโ€™t walk again for years, Assadโ€™s regime collapsed because Russia is too busy in Ukraine, and Putin has his hands too full to come to Iranโ€™s aid either. That only really leaves the Houthis, and theyโ€™re no threat, while most other middle-eastern nations are not Allied with Israel, but are geopolitically aligned with them in disliking Iran. The Iranian leadership has been having to work overtime the last few years to keep a lid on massive protests and unrest. Bibi has seen all the stars aligning and regards this as perhaps a once in a generation opportunity to create the circumstances for regime change, the Israelis reckon that by fairly surgically taking out key personnel and state apparatus they can give the Iranian opposition a solid chance of mailing it happen.

As for how this affects /biz/, oil-related stuff will moon in the short-term, but watch out in the longer run because if Iran manages to come in from the cold they will open up access to massive reserves.

This is also true, and Bibiโ€™s only real chance of staying in power is to be a successful wartime leader. Of course itโ€™s entirely coincidental that these dominos requiring years of careful positioning have all been moving into place at the same time, and that the entire Israeli security apparatus just so happened to be caught napping at the optimum moment to set them all in motion.

Letโ€™s not forget the role of the Saudis in all of this either. For years theyโ€™ve been fighting proxy wars with Iran in all of the surrounding conflicts. In 2023 they started negotiating with Israel to normalise relations, and an Israeli delegation visited them just a month before the Gaza war broke out, another entirely coincidental turn of events. Iโ€™m sure that the Israelis and Saudis would never concoct a secret agreement to weaken Iranian influence in the region.

Saudi is playing both sides. They normalized relations with Iran at the same time they normalized with Israel. Even now MBS is "condemning" Israeli attacks in call with the Iranian president. They are neutral and have no preference for a single side over the other as far as I can tell. They would probably prefer that they both destroy each other so it can take over the region.

Yes but that's why their rates climb.
If you're going to risk an expensive asset you're not going to do that for breakeven rates. It must be worth it.

When Ukraine happened, tankers that were previously worth $15m were suddenly generating $10m in profit every year in the legit market, and a lot more than that in the Russian market. Of course they were worth a lot more than $15m by that point.

2021:

>This room is the nerve centre of a bunker dubbed the โ€˜Fortress of Zionโ€™, a new Israeli army command post deep underground beneath its headquarters in the heart of Tel Aviv. It is designed to command the kind of high-tech air wars that have supplanted ground invasions fought by tanks and infantry battalions.

>The IDF had hoped to complete the bunker's construction several years ago, but the project hit numerous budgetary and technical difficulties. Eventually, a tender was issued for the construction. The winner was a U.S. defense contractor, which enabled Israel to use U.S. aid to complete part of the project.

>An underground bunker in Jerusalem where senior leaders can remain for an extended period during a war has been prepared by the Shin Bet security service, the Walla news site reports.

Here are some scams/ stupidity:

1) Dividend stock/ etfs : not worth it unless you can dump a literal million on one. Covered calls beat them until then.

2) Yieldmax schemes: You are literally paying for ((((managers)))) to do covered calls for you and give you a fraction of the proceeds. You can cover call yourself.

3) Crypto: Only btc matters and it's a long term investment. Stay away from anything else. Do not expect weekly profits like covered calls give you.

Nothing can beat the covered call and cash secured put. Stop trying to reinvent the wheel and get on it.

Not only that but dividends can be a tax nightmare for non-Americans, the default withholding tax is 30% and that's before local taxes.

It's just better to pick accumulating ETFs that reinvest their divvies automatically for so many reasons, it's better for taxes, it removes the choice from you whether you should reinvest or spend (dumb), you don't have to actually reinvest yourself which requires action and commissions/fees on the trade etc.
