1. New honda reliability has fallen relatively overall in the last 10 years or so.
BUT
2. Reliability varies WILDLY across a car maker's line. Some models can be great, some can be stinkers. So even talking about reliability about a brand really isn't that great. And even by year of the same model can have wild fluctuations- a newly redesigned car can come with all sorts of tech that has big problems vs a year prior.
AND
3. Reliability of MOST mass-manufactured cars (Let's say the top 80%) is pretty good at this point. Like generally speaking you should be able to buy even a mediocre 25th percentile reliability car and have cumulatively single digit chances of major engine problems in the first 100,000 miles- the vast majority will make it 100k, 200k without major issues.

So yes Honda's "fallen behind" but also maybe it really doesn't matter so much. This is not the 70s where a car making it 100k, 200k miles was some big accomplishment or odometers only had 5 digits (because they'd be in the shitter by 100k or shortly after).

Most of Hondas are ugly tho, the civic is the #1 white trash mobile (at least in the EU) and their sedans/crossovers all give office bugman vibes. In most 1st world countries there are premium supermarket chains that offer local goods and high quality produce for like 3x the price. Example from my country: you can get low quality mass produced Zott mozarella in lidl for €1.4 or the same amount but much higher quality from a real Italian farm sold in a premium chain for €4. The wealthy will have nicer apartments and nicer homes. But nobody's actually driving around with lambos unless they're a rapstar showing off or they live in Miami or LA. They don't go to special clubs. They go to the same clubs as hip middle class people, except maybe they pay extra for bottle service at times.

Point is, the trivial day to day stuff, is generally the same between the rich and the middle class. They get their coffee at the same place as 20 year old girls do. They eat at the same trendy takeout spots. Etc.
