With your own house you kinda fix in place your single biggest expense (with some interest fluctuation) which reduces risk.

On the other hand, let's say you have $100k saved up and you commit a $50k downpayment to buy a $500k house. Now you've got $50k and a $500k house - your "portfolio" is 90% real estate. That's also a lot of risk.

I work for a company that has 401k, but there's a 4 year vest on it which seems like a scam. I max it out, but I'm tempted to stop doing it and just buying gold or something. So far for this year I have $10k in unvested balance. Is it worth doing this even with the bullshit vest?

you need to get clarification on what this means exactly. You can open your own IRA and Roth IRA. One reason to use your work's is they match. This does not make any sense for a 401k, its your money when you put it in the day you put it in. You can actaully put in the entire amount (IRS max allowed for that year) on January 1 (if you have it) and earn interest on it. I think you need to meet with HR and go over the plan in detail.

Made almost 100k on UPWK and UUUU and then my brother gave me a "hot tip" on NVAX (even though when he told me about it I said the chart looked like shit). Main stream media shills their stock just before it goes down and shits on it before it goes up. OG runs in big cycles, look at XOM price for the last 5 years, CVX, these are large companies with some different emphasis on production vs distribution/refining and where they operate. CVX costs a little more, is a bit more focused on production, pays a little more dividend (some biz anons hate dividends or think they are insignificant). Your time frame is important, too. You can buy some of each and make your own "ETF" or buy an actual upstream ETF
