Mid 30s, no kids, but dead end job, I make $15/hr and got into a bad car loan. Everytime I try to invest, a bill or emergency expenditure arises. I don't even want handouts because I just end up spending it. Is there any hope or should I give up altogether? I just don't have a money making mentality

I didn't learn how to save money growing up and I didn't have my first real job until age 26. I have yet to break the 30,000 a year mark. I don't have any felonies or anything but whenever I apply for good jobs they pass me over. Even if I was making 40k a year, it would be a big accomplishment for me. I only completed 2 years of college which forced me to pick up labor jobs, but as time goes on it's physically taking its toll. I'm just looking for ways to improve my finances and help my parents as they get older.

spend less than you make each month, come now anon this isnt rocket surgery
you just have to downgrade your living standards to match your income level, dispense with all status signaling and do things you were told only losers do but save you plenty of money
maybe do some side gigs or pick up a second shift or something
and default on the loan move to a non car based living arrangement, what do you need the credit score for you are never getting a mortgage anyways

>and help my parents as they get older
never do this, never let others drag you down with them
doubly squared so if its your boomer or gen x parents who lived in the golden years and squandered countless easy opportunities if they are still poor in old age

declare bankruptcy? is a car 100% necessary, you cant ride a bike?

i'm almost 40 never had a car, ive just lived in cities i can get around on a bike or public transport.

i think if you spend every waking second teaching yourself programming you can land a good paying job in a year or two. but it seems like you're really undisciplined and this is simply impossible for you.

just gibs max and start investing in supplies to live on the street, like a tent

Most people don't really make money until they have kids. Focus on finding a childbearing wench that isn't a complete crazy whore and everything else will work out. Otherwise you're just going to stay broke and depressed. Also, if you're non white make sure you go back first.

I was thinking about this. It makes no sense to have a balloon payment like this and it never goes down because of the interest. It's literal slavery at this point. I don't hate my job but I can't say I love it either. Was thinking about getting an e- bike and moving closer into my nearest city. My parents are ok with me staying because I still help them the best I can with bills and physical tasks but I can't take the constant socioeconomic class marker they live by. It's a different time now.

How bad is your car loan (how much per month + your interest rate which I assume is quite high)? That's the first thing you have to tackle, either through selling your car or if that doesn't work, get across the zero line on your equity then get rid of it then and afterwards find a used car that's fairly reliable and not too new. Most new cars these days can't even be fixed by mechanics because of the planned obsolescence and proprietary tech put into them (which is done on purpose btw to skyrocket repair costs by forcing you to go to an official dealer for a repair).

tldr; get your car loan issue taken care of first then tackle everything else later

don't doxx yourself but you need to start with the basics - creating a budget, eliminating items, etc.
how much do you spend on rent? how much do you spend in groceries? how bad is your car loan? how much car equity do you have? (scary word but basically - if you sold your car back to the dealership would you be under water or above water?)
if you move away jobs pay more but everything else costs more - it is probably worth it but you will need to get some savings to make the move in the first place.

also we have good LLMs now. ask them questions, cross-validate answers.
make a google docs spreadsheet of everything that comes in and goes out, notice patterns.
but the first thing is to massively increase income. there is no reason a healthy person should earn 30k/yr. apply for govt jobs >>60508044 >>60508147

This

And know that it's never over. One of the biggest and most dangerous fallacies is that a low salary means it's not worth investing. Both a $10k salary and a $10m salary, investing the same percent, will require the same amount of time for their investment returns to supplant their salary. For example, (in theory) if you invest $5k/yr in S&P for 15 years, you will have enough to withdraw $5k/yr from then on without touching the principal. If you invest $5m per year for 15 years, you will be able to withdraw $5m/yr without touching the principal.
Start investing TODAY. Never cash out during a crash (in fact, put more in). You can quit your job when you're comfortable with living on 3% of your portfolio each year.

yeah, I could be mixing up my numbers - I forgot which return 4% withdrawal rate expects (though that might be only for "retirement at 65" or something - i.e. has to last you 30 years; and "retirement at 30" would be a different risk tolerance). but in either case the framing of "$X deposited every year after N years becomes $X withdrawal for life" is very good irrespective of N.
very much agree about BTC. in particular, if you are young (and I think OP is not "old" at 40, though manual labor takes toll) you want to take more risk, rather than boomer 60/40 allocations.

then why are you saying they should invest?

>saving 10% if you are a $30k/yr poorfag is harder than saving 10% if you are a $300k/yr MD
it is MUCH HARDER.

also, let's say each of those people can make 5% on their investments. let's say the poor person manages to save 10k while the MD manages to save 100k (so 1/3 of their annual income each). 5% of 10k is 500, while 5% of 100k is 5k. that's a big fucking difference in both amount of savings AND standards of living/spending.

>the point stands: you should still save
sure, you should save as long as life allows you to do so. but poor people have more immediate problems to worry about, things that are usually more basic yet more expensive (relatively speaking) for them than for the person who has a median income, you know?

plus the OP says that he got in "a bad car loan". this shows he lacks even the basic knowledge to stop wasting money on useles shit or falling for scams. IMO he needs to learn how to make more money and how to manage it in the first place.

It's hard not to insult you. You sound like you're one of those people that always blames others and never themselves. You say
>it's not my fault I never learned to save
>I just don't have a money making mentality
but it absolutely is your fault. You say you don't want handouts because you would "just end up spending it" says a lot. At least you recognize this which puts you ahead of some people. Another example is that you literally blame the universe when you say
>Everytime I try to invest, a bill or emergency expenditure arises
Bullshit. The truth is you're fucking HORRIBLE at managing your money, and you blame everything (even the universe). That doesn't mean you're incapable of admitting you are also to blame, but you honestly take a lot of that blame off of you and put it on the universe.

>Like how do I put money away form each paycheck?
What the fuck kind of question is that? You only need a small amount of self control to do this. How do you put money away? You fucking put it away that's how. Leave it in your bank account. Pull it out as cash and stuff in a piggy bank. How do I move my hand? I don't know what to tell you but it does seem like you might be too far gone for any amount of help. Pull money out and stuff it in envelopes. Use multiple different envelopes. Stop thinking "I can afford this, I have the money" and start thinking "do I really need this shit?" Most forms of media are free so don't pay the streaming jew anything just stream everything for free. Most video games are also free.

Making sound decisions with your money is 1 part intelligence and 9 parts controlling your emotions.

>more immediate problems to worry about

This isn't wrong but it's dangerous to start here. People in OP's situation often get there by lacking confidence in being able to change their situation and thus making excuses for their unnecessary expenses. Notice how the OP image shows $0.00 invested? Are you telling me he needed to withdraw every last cent? Some expense costed the exact amount that he had in the account? This is a psychological problem first.

For those on this thread saying emergency expenditures are "excuses" - I'll remind you only once that often these emergency expenditures involve medical or car issues. For medical, you can only help your long term health by exercising and good diet but you can't help if a medical emergency happens to you out of the blue and get slapped with a six figure+ hospital bill for example. Only way you're getting out of that is either affording it or bankruptcy if insurance screws you over. For the car issue, if you can't fix the issue yourself (ie it involves something with a new car's stupid proprietary software making everything else run), then you're screwed on that end too.

Why are so many of you being condescending asswipes and not TRULY helping OP out at the same time? I truly hate this board at times.

what the OP needs is to LEARN TO SAVE, LEARN TO LIVE FRUGALLY and LEARN TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OPPORTUNITIES before even trying to save anything.

>People in OP's situation often get there by lacking confidence in being able to change their situation and thus making excuses for their unnecessary expenses
ah, yes, the old "you are poor because you are stupid". again, you have no idea what being poor means but you come here as some kind of priest, but instead of morals you retards give sermons about "saving money" and "investing"
OP might manage to make some pennies. meanwhile, he'll probably eat badly (bad for his health) and keep spending money on useless shit (like interests from a "bad car loan"), because he clearly doesn't know how to manage money.
