>>60516255I just turned 30 and I have a little over $2 million. I fucked up big in 2022. Anyway nothing happens except literally everyone around you stops keeping track of age as an indicator at this age. A 25 year old with $1 million is "doing well for 25." A 30 year old with $3 million gets looked at exactly the same as a 36-year-old in that scenario, because the very obvious breaking point of "doing well in life" was clearly decided a decade ago and everyone knows it.
Like socially your "peers" in your 20s are other people in their 20s. In your 30s, your "peers" socially are everyone in their 30s, 40s, and low 50s. By 55+ that divide in status becomes so pronounced you're either "comfortable" or borderline homeless, so they get their own cohort again.
>>60516259Also my wife and I are buying a decent home right now (literally today) for about $2 million. And this isn't some mega-mansion, this is a mid-sized home with a shared parking space in a coastal US city. You are correct (but we really do need a home for our kid).
