when i was about 11 years old i started playing halo online
i eventually made "friends" with a couple of kids but there were 4 of them who became my "best friends"
we added each other on facebook and chatted about stupid shit while playing halo basically every day
one of these 4 kids, the oldest of the team, used to talk about bitcoin all the time
he called it "the next paypal"
i was about 13 years old when bitcoin reached $1 and this guy was very excited about it
he offered 10 bitcoin to each of us as a gift
one kid accepted but me and another kid declined the offer
i just wanted to play the game and learning about crypto seemed like a hassle to me
over time we stopped playing and talked less and less and by the time i was 15 the group had basically fallen apart
i still kept these guys on my facebook profile until i turned 18 and decided to close my facebook account
before closing my account i sent these guys a good bye message
only one of them replied
since we were all using pseudonyms on our facebook accounts i have no idea what their real names are so i have no way of contacting them again
if only i had know what the future would hold
in hindsight somebody basically offered me 1 million dollars for free and i said no
that is assuming i held those 10 bitcoin until today which is very unlikely but still it makes me feel a lot of regret

I first encountered BTC in 2010. I wanted to buy some, but I had a "youth" card that wouldn't authorize the payment. Later in 2016, I wanted to buy some again, and... I was scared. I only bought some last year. I have alts that I bought at the same time. I've only seen red. I hate crypto.

In 2017 I was smoking 1/4 oz of weed per week, and buying this off the darkweb for about 0.05 to 0.09 bitcoin per quarter ounce.
So at the lowest price of 0.05 BTC per week, that means I smoked 2.6 BTC worth of marijuana in 2017.
So like $210,000 USD.
That's a little excessive in retrospect

The thing is anon, being early didn't really matter. What matter was a near religious belief that crpyto would succeed, such that taking insane feeling risks were possible.
What you need to understand is there isn't much difference from your situation in 2012 than there is now.

About to turn 39 soon, did okay due to winning with trading or just being lucky. Probably have taken low six figures out of the crypto casino overall.

Biggest opportunity costs are the halcyon early days of 2010-2012 when I was well aware of it but didn't get involved until much later and 2014 when I was working shit jobs but buying straight up through Goybase at extremely cheap prices was fully available.

I'm 27
I knew about bitcoin back in mid or late 2011 and wanted in. At the time all I had was a shitty CPU/GPU, but still managed to mine about 10 BTC over the span of a year. 2012 my parents went through a divorce and mom moved across the country while I stayed with my dad. Mom took the computer which I didn't give a shit about at the time because to me it seemed my whole world was coming undone.
FF to now, about once a week I think about how much life would've been different if I just hung on to that machine instead of being a poorfag wagie. Realistically I would have cashed out at the 20k mark and gone through college with 200k and make it just like others. But seeing where we are today still stings.

Similar. I had 30+ BTC in the early 2010s. Swapped it all for Bitcoin (BCH) because humanity needs micropayments and self custody of digital assets as well as a deflationary money. Exchanges and miners pulled a heist for the ticker, pumped their shitcoin and began reorganizing the chain in an attempt to kill Bitcoin. Eventually Bitcoin will win over BTC once people begin to seek shelter from hyperinflation. Then they will see just how shitty BTC actually is.

Most people our age knew about BTC since like 2011-2012.
Most of us just didn't understand the idea behind it, it was just "neat internet money", and usually if we thought about it, it was in the news for sky-rocketing and everyone thought it peaked.

I Remember the First threads on /b/ and /g/ about bitcoin in probably 2009/10.
I remember a day in 2013 the first time browsing /biz/ thinking "maybe I can make some money following this board "
I remember to talk with a friend who use to train with me that was sceptical about Bitcoin at 200$, and I told him that is gonna pump even more
I remember that I solved some captcha in exchange for some bitcoin in 2010 or 9, but I used to create a lot of mails accounts and some I don't even remember.
Finally I decided to buy crypto in summer of 2020 try to send money for buy 2k of doge and 2k of ETH I can't connect to my bank account because I'm in Thailand.
Go back to my country decide to buy in May 2021 I bought doge and others coin doge pump because SNL musk, than everything start to dump , I continue to buy, the second pump in November I go back green, than dump again.
So I close my positions and put everything on TRX and stacking everything seems going good.
December 2023 swap to doge
2024 Doge pump finally I make some money
Swap my doge for FET in march More money.
FET do the merge
Dump
I lost almost everything, but I learnt a lot of things
