3d printing seems kinda memey but I know there are some useful products that can be made with it. i did buy an adapter for my vacuum to makita sander that is 3d printed and i paid like $20. i think some guy made bank modifying the milwaukie stack n packs

i started with CNC router and doing wood. I think it will be easier to transition to metal later (i.e. plasma cnc or 5-axis) since I am learning on a soft material

i was working at a racecar shop and the mindset was if the CNC machine isnt running it's not that it's not making money but losing money

My dad got into 3d printing (60yr old boomer), and one of his friends asked him to make a new light cover for some specific old trailer because the old one had faded.
He did it, and then put them for sale on some 3d print shop or etsy or something for $50 with instructions on how to install them. Word got around to some boomer facebook group where everyone owned the trailer and he ended up making 2k last year from 3d printing them and packaging them into envelopes and mailing them out.
Ended up paying for the 3d printer but not much profit after that.
Seemed kind of inconvenient because he said he had to go out to the post office every few days to mail shit for months, but I guess it got him out of the house.
Overall it seems possible to make money. Like with all things in business when you're starting it's impossible to compete with the big player by copying them, but if you can find a niche you can do well, there's opportunity by hitting a market that didn't know it wanted what you had.

You need to be technically competent and extremely reliable.

Make a menu and send the team a few of your most complex samples, they would use you as a vendor if your quality and skill is there.
