I've been a PM since 2008. I was never like that. If I'd desperately need that thing, I'd first ask myself "why does this fellow wagie not know the urgency". If the wagie knew the urgency, but fumbled it, I'd encourage the wagie to use a priority system, giving it a mental carrot to chase after, like telling some story about a successful leader (corrupt evil parasite, but the wagie needs other words) who used that system to create (steal) value.

This. The PM is an idiot. You'd be better off transferring to some other project rather than work under an idiot who can't communicate expectations or general timelines for the project. Definitely file an HR complaint on him now so that when he tries to fire you, it looks like retaliation and HR will tell him no.

Other than that there's ways to cover your ass and lead up the chain but frankly those are all copes, and you're better off looking for a boss who's not a retard.
