Buying calls or puts is a fixed cost with the best upside. Your success %is not as great as selling but your upside is theoretically infinite

Selling calls or puts is "safer" in that your success % is greater but your upside is only the cost of the option. Your downside is theoretically infinite.

If you buy a call and it doesn't do well, you're only out the initial cost of the option. Live to fight another day. If you SELL a call and the ticket moons, you could lose your balls forever.

Tl;Dr - to start, just learn to buy options 60 DTE or so ITM or just OTM. Once comfortable, you can extend or contract your DTE and/or get further OTM.

Yes, their dividend changes a lot over time, the are low now, but still much higher than other stocks. I just jumped in without using think or swimg, and I started with QBTS when it was about $4.5 and I made a mistake immediately. I did not understand how to set the limit price (while I was looking at the bid ask spread presented) and the price I entered the trade with was too low. Not by much, but still a mistake on my part. I still make money, like $5 premium, and let the call expire and watched how the prices of the stock and contract changed during the week. Next week I did it again and again learning a lot more. Its odd you sell a contract and you are -1, and your gains show as negative but can switch bach forth to positive, then there is time decay. It takes a while to become accustomed to it, so do not risk any real money until you are confident and comfortable with how it works. You might have to buy (assigend) or get called at the very last seconds of trading. I have not been exercised early yet, but it can happen any time.

i thought about this strategy but decided to stick with SGOV as my core because im attracted to the high liquidity and virtually risk free status. with these oil stocks, something could happen to blow up your principle at the worst timing, when you need to rotate out cash. im happy with the consistent 4-5% from bond etfs
but i did think about your strategy and am curious, how do you keep track of when some of these stocks fall out of favor, or there are better dividend stocks out there for you to rotate into? to me it seems like more stress and less passivity for a few more bucks
