Median house price is around 500k, that gives you 500k to retire on. One major medical event will wipe out another 100k.

It's actually kind of comfy and relaxing. No matter how much I fuck up I can sell my house and just move to some shithole and be content that I lived my life and tried and experienced things.

Yeah 4% rule and all that, but what kind of portfolio would you actually arrange for that? The boomer 60/40 stocks bonds?

You can buy almost 10 btc with a million dollars. You'd be a billionaire in 5 years

i would still leave it in stocks and just keep $80k in a flexible savings account (ie a chequing account with interest) which i would incrementally top up whenever it wasn't the bottom
if things go so badly that stocks lose over 30 years then dollars will have also lost and everyone, even bobo, will be in the gutter
i'd keep working a little anyway but it would be lifechanging knowing i didn't need to find work or face homelessness in a few years
