I barely clear 5k a month after taxes, social security, medical insurance, HSA contributions, 401k contributions, ESPP purchases, social security contribution, home insurance, mortgage payment, HOA dues, car insurance, cell phone bill, electricity, Internet, and GrubHub+.

I used to think people that bitched about how 100k salary is a fucking joke but now I get it. Granted, I only live on $1200 a month so I sock away thousands every month but I only feel like I’m “keeping up” and not really getting ahead.

Keep wage slaving and saving, i know it sounds terrible, but life is long, and if you find meaning and satisfaction in what you do to earn a living, then that itself is a blessing. Many people exit their early retirements to continue working until they are like in their 70s for a reason.
