I remember discussing this in an aerospace conference's forum in 2018 or so. I'm not working on anything crypto, I just participated in the public talk because of another topic. It seems they still don't use it to this day, the hot shit is measuring surface irregularities with a laser and look that up in a manufacturer's DB. Seems you don't counter third world scams with third world scams.

because they focused on PNGs instead of what non-fungible-tokens are actually for, or at least the scammers made that the focus

What happened was when technical people asked questions like
"What happens when the web server hosting the monkey jpeg that the metadata of your NFT links to, but you don't own or control.... goes offline?"
The NFT grifters could never answer these questions because many of them didn't understand how NFTs work, and the ones that did couldn't answer because it would ruin the whole scam

Didn't the legitimate ones use IPFS? Then you could host your own monkey jpg

I bought them low, sold them high, and made money. Seems to me like they worked just fine.

because the owners and devs didn't make creative enough awards for owning them. OOOO this picture of a monkey gives you a picture of a mutant monkey with slime on it's face wow so valuable. The actual yacht party they hosted was a cool concept until you realize it was a sausage fest which defeats the whole point of a party.

Yea opensea did that, but the point is, you don't own the monkey jpeg, you own a receipt proving you paid for a URL.

If any anons wanna buy this URL I will sell it privately for one bitcoin: http://google.com

It was supposed to be DRM but for retards. I'm surprised it lasted more than a month.
