Can an economy be run and maintained solely by the spending of senior citizens? What are the implications on financial markets?

laws like that can be circumvented by creating "companies" who own the investment RE instead of the individual
selling pressure has to increase inventory to push down prices and the only way to do it is to increase the cost of ownership i.e. taxes

the idea being that property taxes would lower the value of RE in general so the actual value you end up paying is the same (higher percentage on a lower value)
It's the same "gravity on prices" mechanism that makes equities go down when interest rates go up

This would make RE cheaper and disincentivise hoarding

Economies run on production, not spending. Production arises out of capital investment in the means of production. The more money that stays in the hands of private citizens, regardless of age, the more gets invested in production. Although older people probably invest more than younger folks.

Why not make it illegal for corporations to own property? If you are concerned about property not circulating in the market, corporations are your biggest problem because they are immortal. Individuals inevitably die and no matter how many properties they own, they will change hands and often go on the market.

>add a 5-10% property tax
>everyone tries to sell their real estate
>prices crash
>property taxes crash

Eventually you’d hit an equilibrium but still, kind of pointless. You want to crash prices so you can own a home but having a huge property tax would kind of defeat the purpose of owning a place vs renting since now you pay the gov thousands a month for the privilege of owning a property

You can’t infinitely increase rents just because your costs go up. People don’t have money to pay you. If you ask $4k/mo for a 1Br when most of the population is broke you simply won’t be able to rent it out.

There are TONS of landlords out there who barely break even or actually are losing money each month because they can’t charge enough rent to offset costs (and they usually sell eventually).

there isnt any. SS is funded by payroll taxes its not a piggy bank invested like the government would like you to think. part of that big chunk of your check missing is SS deductions.

only the rich boom booms pay taxes anyway, that's no new. if you make between 50k and 1000k thank you, your fund everything including boomers. while you pay 30-40-50% the actual rich pay single digits.

I'm right wing and would like to cut taxes across the board as much as possible but I agree with the sentiment. I'm really surprised generational conflict isn't discussed more in the public space than it is. I have permission to say this because it's my own party, but Republicans are often stereotyped as being the stupid people party and it's entirely true. It's ran by a bunch of stupid, out of touch, old people who have a weird resentment for the youth. You should take responsibility and pay back your student loan, but not the federal government, banks, or universities that decided to give a 40-50k loan to pimple faced 18 year old that wanted a degree in interior design. Voiding the debt is socialism, but when's the last time you heard a boomer say we should should slash Medicare or social security? When they're getting free shit at everyone else expense they're all for it.

I had an idea that:
>Setting rents below market rates gives the owner of the property credits that can be used to offset their personal taxes.
>The property must be owned personally or by a proprietorship. Partnerships and corporations do not get this advantage.
The problem is determining what "market rate" is.

that's a lot riskier for the landlord than a young family. the wealthy reinvest their gains, which is understandable, but in doing so they compete with regular people for real world assets. the wealthy will eventually own everything and rent it out to you (they already do). the rent seeking doesn't even stop when people have no more money, the wealthy just lend you money, your debt is an asset to them as well. implementing a wealth tax is not easy and there are efficiency gains to be had if a single entity manages multiple properties / assets, but in the long term it has to be done. else we'll all amass multi generational debt for basic living expenses in the near future

The problem is that 40 to 50 years from now youre going to be the one that collects social security and anything over 35k per year gets taxed at 80%. And the fact that its basically all one huge slush fund means that the taxes you pay into isnt given back to you directly.

So effectively the taxes i pay when im 20 that go through social security should not be taxed again 50 years later again to pay into social security. You want people to put into the fucking system, not have them rely on a 401k or stocks because social security taxes them TWICE.

These communist fucking grifters need to have their mothers slammed into a fucking brick wall by an 18 wheel 10 ton kenworth semi truck going 80mph down the highway.

The real problem is now most men and women are single into their 30s. And they don't have kids living with them. It used to be 1 home = like five americans. Now there needs to be a single home for every person. Also most women work now. That means any couple that wants a housewife has to have the man earn double the average wage just to afford the same home a double working couple can. Which make even less sense when you consider which one intends to have children. Really gets the noggin joggin about capitalism. When resources are allocated based on wants instead of needs you see this type of clownery going on.

SSSA is money that everyone has put into the pool. Some have put more in than others and some have put less but everyone has contributed to the system through taxes.
To the frontend user, it is money that is being stolen from you going into a slush fund that the government uses for overspending.
At this point if you've been working for over 20 years, you've contributed well over $200k to it. It's meant to be a welfare deposit even if you don't use any other money saving alternatives so you can live your dying years.
People want to upend the system because BOOMERS ARE BAD and instead distribute this money to poor dying crackheads.
There is no solution other than ending the global nanny state, but people keep electing redvblue so it will be either taken by your tax dollars or taken by force.

What needs to be done is progressive taxation - x2 for second RE, x3 for third and so on. This way the new home owners won't get punished and the boomers will pay the price. This won't happen tho.

Why do you think so many Western nations have record high taxation while importing record numbers of brown people?
They're double-dipping on consumers by importing them and having them subsidised.

Probably has other income and gets a SS check.
Lots of oldsters have this. High earning oldsters are being taxed at a high rate on their SS.
If they don't squander it then their kids will get it.

Good luck to retard parent havers. At least you won't have to pay as much for their nursing home.

Economies run on money. Whatever makes the most money is best for the economy. A YouTuber or only fans model can bring in millions of dollars. Much more than a farmer or logger. Production is a meme and is only for poor countries

Why is taxing something multiple times while misrepresenting what it is bad? Lmao.

We would have 10x more in retirement if they dumped your SS contributions straight into a SPY or VOO account and didn't touch it until you were 65. It's already a faggot slush fund welfare program and they still tax it on top of that.

What is being taxed multiple times? You're taxed when you receive the W-2 income (this tax pays for senior benefits) and you're taxed when you receive the social security income (this tax goes into the general fund). You seem to be under the misconception that dollars paid into social security are somehow "yours" and they get returned to you in retirement. This is not the case. Social Security is an earnings-related benefit, not a retirement fund.

Oh, I'm under that misconception am I?? How funny! That's how it was originally marketed and sold to the American people. It's the government's money now? That's very cute anon!
