Tell me about your job. Do you like what you do? Right now I'm struggling between doing stuff for the income, or doing something because I like it.
>>60568821 (OP)I had a super easy job working from home and was stupid enough to take a promotion that Iām not ready for and Iām on the verge of a nervous breakdown because Iām so fucked and I have 3 kids to feed.
Of course not, if it was enjoyable then a billion people would do it and the wage would be shit
>>60568833Sure but for some it's just an ends to a mean. For me, I struggle with working if I feel like it's meaningless.

Senior backend SWE at FAANG. I construct and maintain massive data pipelines that determine the discounts you get when you buy something from us or a 3rd party who sells through us. Overall, it's a good job. I'm good at it, exceed expectations every quarter, have 200k in company stock, can easily put away like 100k a year into retirement and investments, live in a nice suburb, go on vacation abroad a month out of the year, etc. I wish the subject matter of my work were more interesting, but that's my only big gripe. I sometimes wonder why the people on /biz/ who spend 8 hours a day researching the next rugpull to go all in on don't just get a normal 9-to-5 and grind their way into a position like mine. I'll be a millionaire next year with long-term sustainable income, and all it took was getting a CS degree and solving the LC daily for a few months. For everybody on this site who gets lucky with a shitcoin, 50 will lose it all and be flipping burgers by the end of the week
>>60568840Then you're probably never going to make good money because work that most people find meaningful or interesting are completely oversaturated, including and especially trades with sky-high skill ceilings like animation or music. Just get a normal job that you can feel fulfilled in and stop worrying about whether it makes you feel like the main character of a shonen.
>>60569152No shit what do you think I've been doing? I think I've been in that camp, but I'm unhappy.
>>60569194If it's so obvious, then you should already know that you can't have both.
>>60569254so there's just no hope to be happy?
>>60569644Get hobbies and friends. You job isn't your identity.
I fell for the CS meme.
My job is OK and pays well. The field is so saturated now that it would be a waste of time going into it.
I work as part of the country 811 call before you dig service. And it's fine, I get by but that's it. I had better paying jobs but they were fucking awful and I can at least work from home with this. Went to college for an associates because my family said "any college is good for finding work" and I feel like they just don't understand how retarded the world is now.
>>60568821 (OP)I love my job, because I found a comfy overnight gig. Easy work, no management, and when it's slow I bust out the Switch. But I absolutely had to sacrifice a personal life. now I'm starting to get lonely, but switching to the day shift seems more painful than loneliness
its fine. great even, I'm happy with it. I could easily get a 50-150k raise but I'd have to go to an office and I'm currently fully remote by loop hole from covid. Given housing costs I'd need to make like 150k more to break even after taxes and other commie state BS. I'm an architect at a mega corp. I'm mid 30s and plan to retire in early 40s. save at least half what you make, work sucks even when you like it. I spend 25% of my time trying to understand WTF is happening, 25% fixing it, and 25% explaining shit to others and the rest on BS like meetings which i shouldn't even be invited to.
I wouldn't tell my kids to go into software today because AI is going to ass fuck everyone who even glances at a screen occasionally, but it was a good choice 15 years ago. make cash while you can, that day is quickly coming to a close, as you see by plummeting wages over the last 20 years 7.25 full time paid rent in 47/50 states. today its 0.
i work for a streaming company but in operations, so although I've worked here many years, I've learned no skills that would be attractive to another employer. at the moment my department is slowly being outsourced to a division of the company in south america, where we've been told each employee makes about a third of what we do. my job was originally in Manhattan but went remote. despite being NY-based, I only make slightly over 100k, even though I'm a manager and have worked here for a number of years.
>>60569824Interviewing has certainly gotten harder, but I think it's only really bad for recent grads. Senior+ can still get interviews and job hob when needed. Unless of course you're coming from a joke company like Intel that gives the senior title to any dev with 2+ years of tenure.
>>60569902how much would it need to raise to avoid getting the increased tax cut?
Even O&G engineering is being moved to third world countries by the super majors. Unless you're boots on the ground or have been in the industry over fifteen years Ramdesh will be doing your job in five years.
