Has anyone actually gone to gmx.com before? Seems like a very specific provider.

It's owned by 1&1 Mail & Media GmbH, which is a German internet provider.
Their head office is located at Brauerstr. 48, 76135 Karlsruhe, Germany.
On the same block as 1&1 is Taumi Karlsruhe Asia Fusion. It is the only Asian fusion restaurant in Karlsruhe.
On the menu is an item for 19.90 euro called Sake Tsunami featuring 8 parts Maki, 4 parts Nigiri and 2 parts Sashimi. There is no other menu in the world containing a food item called "Sake Tsunami" (Although there is a drink called "Sake Tsunami" from 49th State Brewing, which Alaska is the 49th state, probably nothing.)
On the cover of Satoshi Nakamoto's design book, "Wave and Ripple" is a picture of a tsunami.

tl;dr: Satoshi is, or was, a German living in Karlsruhe.

That's a Pretty Good Proposition. Look closer at the fish servings though.

GMX would suggest German origin, yes. Maybe the BND launched it on behalf of the Americans.
The Karlsruhe area is the German Silicon Valley (without the Jewish VC), but GMX users are spread all over Germany, this doesn't mean much.
Or he selected it because he knows the Germans are autistic law & order cattle, so they would never leak his IP data.

At the time, they still did not record the thoughts of the Germans for eternity, but the Americans already had priority access to all German Internet data.

Holy shit, TIL I use the same email provider as Satoshi
But the thing is, I live in the Caribbean. So I don't think him using a gmx email is necessarily an indicator of where he lived
Also, the email address I have with gmx was really just a throwaway email that I rarely used. I only kept it all of these years as a backup email address. The only reason why I registered with them all those years ago in the first place, was because I was googling sites to create a quick, free throwaway email and they were the first ones I tried that didn't give me any sign-up issues
