I have 300k and am pretty sure I could do this. A house is like 100k cash. You can live off 200k for decades and just do something to get cash part time you'd enjoy. I'd play fiddle at an Irish pub 1 night a week or something

Sorting out the visa would be harder than sorting out the money, really. Japan also taxes you out the ass so be prepared for that. Capital gains and dividends are taxed at 20.315% flat.
Regular income is even worse when you hit around 6 million yen or more assuming you don't have huge deductions. You get whacked for taxes but also pension (which isn't too bad) and health insurance that is based on your income (really bad).
1 million USD will set you for life though in Japan easy, assuming you can secure a visa and buy a home and take care of it. Those akiya assholes on Jewtube are selling you bullshit though. Don't bother buying one of those, you'll just be in the hole from the start.

$1M isn't anywhere near enough to visa loophole for a business manager visa. You'd either have to become a full time wagie for a japanese company or opt for the temporary 2 year student visa, neither of which constitute retirement

How much do you have? If you've got $3M+ then contact a Jap law firm that specializes on immigration law. They'll walk you through the business manager visa process. But you'll need minimum 3 years of relevant experience in your home country, so anyone who plans to retire there when they make it should set up a company in their home country asap that rents out 1 property

Yes, but there are many types of businesses where you don't need to be actively managing it 8 hours per day. Hiring two minimum wagies costs you about $30k per year, and you don't need a thriving a business to cover that expense. If you've got a few mill then just talk to a law firm that specializes in immigration law and they'll lay out your options

If your anxious and lonely in your home country, guess what moving to a foreign nation is like? you don't know the language or culture beyond puddle depth. Most of the changes you'd need to make to fit in there, can be achieved right now where u already live. this might not apply to OP but it applies to 90% of the jap worshipping dumbasses on this website.

Look anon, I just want to move to a sfae country with my cats and all I need is internet and games, also privacy laws there are great, So having a business that just pays itself monthly without expecting to become a millionare is actually ideal for me, there's nice houses outside of the big cities there, you can just take the train if you need to be there some days, much better than wageslaving, specially Japanese wageslaving which is hell, but it is indeed scary to be alone in a country, dunno how lonely you will be in 5-10 years, specially without your online gaming squad

Japan does need to ax taxes entirely tho, from my research there's some bullshit stuff that makes no sense

I said in my post that it doesn't apply to everyone. If you're just gonna move and neet, then move somewhere safe and cheap, it doesn't matter. The issue is the people who think they will suddenly stop being a neet; because they moved to a country with a massive neet population. I'm projecting nothing, I like where I live

we are on 4chan dumbass. If u want japanese culture, u can try a holiday first. If you have money, you wouldn't be on here debating how much you'd need to go. most anons here have a warped idea of japan and don't understand the undertaking of assimilation. they think if they make a couple milly and move there, it will all fall into place. someone's gotta point out the truth. it's a nation with a failing currency that's buried in debt. most immigrants bring these facts up once they've been there, and the rose tinted glasses come off

From their point system I could get permanent residency in 1 year, but the place I work won't let me work there or transfer there even though they have an office in japan.
Sucks so much since the visa is the hardest part and permanent residency would set me up to retire there easily.

yeah, you are not wrong about their society and interaction, still I appreciate the peace and privacy, my current plan is too just hopefully invest in a business/franchise that can get running by itself,
moving to a smaller city in Japan or even semi rural area in a decent size house is a good plan, that or the U.S. in some nice state, again all I need is internet an games, and a place where I can take loong walks, which I enjoy doing by myself, and even then you dont know if you will meet the one and now the plans is off and you have a family, but happy

Honestly my investments are at the point where I'm close to hitting my retirement number, if I stay where I am for another 3 years I should have enough to retire in my country with my current cost of living.
Not really opposed to the idea of job hopping, just as a dev the interview process everywhere is awful and takes a lot of preparation that I'm not willing to do it, I'm not sure if I'm even capable of doing anymore.

Unless you speak fluent Japanese and already have a qt3.14 waifu with hafu children, you'll never be allowed to live in Japan. They are extremely racist towards anyone who isn't Japanese and will purposefully make finding a property/apartment an impossibility. They tolerate tourists and foreigners with work visas, but despise anyone who moves into their neighborhoods with no intention of integrating into their culture and being a part of their community. $1m isn't nearly enough just to live there by yourself even just for even a few years
