It became mainstream ca. 2017/18. Since then, it's mainstream. Main-stream. Keyword.

What happens to Bitcoin if the block size is increased as Satoshi said it should be?

What are the negative side effects of this that small blockers are afraid of?

Nope. It's been compromised and is now merely a speculation vehicle. We could have been our own banks lads.

He built Bitcoin with Smart contracts and his mantra was removing the middle man, Central banks did not stand idle they took over Bitcoin core, took over all the bitcoin exchanges (Those that refused the buyout got """Hacked"""), and in 2017 blockstream removed smart contracts by implementing the Segwit fork which removed signature data as an excuse to "free up blockspace without needing to raise the blocksize (but look what they did just a year later lol)" If you wish to do anything bitcoin u must now use the servies of middlemen, custodians, and central exchanges. That fork was the reason Ethereum and BSC exists today, Vitalik used to be a bitcoin developer back in the early days.
