normies love one-shotting themselves with payments while poor. They live for it
>>60595963 (OP)I just don't understand how people keep buying these insanely overpriced cars while they don't even have money in the bank. Just absolutely stupid
>>60595963 (OP)It's better to borrow for a car than buy it outright
>>60596011>car breaks down>need car to get to/from job>the cagie cycle continues
Why do normies insist on paying this much for cars? I got a used Civic a couple years ago for $1100 and all it has needed is a tie rod and ac recharge
>>60596023I rather drive a beater car than one of these new cars that are poorly designed and constructed. Blows my mind how people can be ok with paying $500+ every month when they're living paycheck to paycheck
>>60595963 (OP)Lmao buying 15year old or newer cars is fucking retarded and paying top dollar for that depreciating piece of shit.
>>60596011Peer pressure.
I thought I was immune to it, but after all my neighbors bought new and expensive cars, I was forced to buy one too.
It's the only way for you to show society that you're not broke.
>>60595963 (OP)this board is all broke zoomers at this point
>>60596265>acting like owning an s class and driving it yourself is something successful people doYou're so broke you don't even understand what's wrong with this
>>60596265For me, it's the TLX Type S.
What people are realizing is, if every car is way overpriced, including the "reasonable" choices, then you might as well get a nice car you like if you're going to spend the money every month.
>>60595963 (OP)My car payment is about 650 a month. The initial loan was 25k. I've applied a couple bonuses to it to pay it down faster. I'll have it paid off by the end of the year. Real talk guys: don't get a car this expensive as soon as you graduate college. I can afford it, but I'd have made good gains over the past couple years if I'd have invested this 650/month + bonuses instead of using it to pay off my fucking Subaru.
I had to make a choice a few years ago. Its either owning a car OR working one day less per week. Both choices were pretty much equivalent financially. Ditched the car, have to use the bus now but have to work less. Food for thought for the all the car bros. After a while the fucking thing starts owning you anyway. All the repairs, maintenance and whatnot is getting really annoying after a while.
I bought a used Corolla with body damage for $8k cash, should last me 5-6 years and I get to save about $4k each month between retirement plans and individual accounts.
I drive a 2017 diesel bmw with 215k miles and a 2006 4runner with 235k miles.
I have a heads-up display, leather, LED headlights, 45mpg highway, and I can pick up lumber at the yard or drive 4wd in the snow. This arrangement cost me under 20k. Stay poor retards.
>>60595963 (OP)Ok sure this is the average but what is the median? The poorer the person is the more likely the car is some 20 year old piece of junk that's paid off. Meaning any data on monthly car payments is from fairly new cars and excludes a large group of poor people. Even then though I could not imagine spending anything over $400 a month on a car.
>>60596011Buy a car from the sharks that are car dealers is as american as apple pie.
>>60596527how is it even possible. it can only work with people clinically retarded or total math illiterates who can't even do a simple multiplication
>>60595963 (OP)I bought a 2001 BMW for $1100 like 10 years ago and still drive it to this day.
I've done a lot of work to it including an engine swap but it never needed a tow truck. I've limped it home one way or another a few times.
If you know how to work on cars, you can keep a junker going forever.
>>60596587in new england all old cars just rot out if you drive them at all during the winter
>>60596509>burning money that could be stacking satsngmi
Is not having a car payment the only "flex" a poor person can have?
Also, why are cars the only consumer product that people do this with? If you see someone at a grocery store buying an expensive name brand of something, you don't have an autistic meltdown with that, it's just cars.
Because people are retarded.
>>60595963 (OP)I don't get it. are these payments to buy the cars or extras?
>>60595963 (OP)If you buy a car with a 5 year loan and drive it for 15 years, your payments get recorded as $750 but it's actually $250.
>>60596591Yes, and its alot worse in last 15 years if you drive on any interstate, the pretreatment is so insanely corrosive it's hard to believe...even 4-6 year old cars literally disintegrate and if it's a 10 yr plus old vehicle fucking forget it
>>60596475if v6, your 4runner is about to need head gaskets
also if your rear wiper swipes once on startup, your battery is about to need replacement.
>>60595963 (OP)I bought a van for $200 in 2018. I've spent $5k on it total, over 7 years. now I have a vehicle I can repair myself and sleep in
I also bought a scooter for $350 in 2016. I also rebuild it and drive it around, cost me $100 for that one.
no Im not a van lifer, I just own a van to enjoy on the weekends
>>60596370For sure, just drive that thing until it disintegrates.

That's a bargain, OP.

>>60596509$745 a month is a lot for the average NPC retard that makes $3k a month, which is what this thread is about, you stupid fuck
>>60596917>Y-you might need a battery soon! What kind of cope even is this
>>60596011Parents don't love their chicken or even know how to in this foreigner competitive environment where the norm is 6 to a household minimum (the apt below me is Hispanics, 4 vehicles to one parking spot, everyone else has the one vehicle except them, and they throw huge loud BBQs every other day , taking up more parking spaces). They event hit my car super lightly while parking last week. Talked shit to the car they hit as I watched them do it. These are my neighbors and countrymen I am supposed to defend.
>>60597061My Honda Fit I paid about 8k for when it had 99k miles on it. Never stranded me, but didn't want to start a few times (bad battery, then later a bad starter). I learned that an old starter makes you go through batteries quicker.

You can have a $150k car but until you have a full time personal chauffeur you truly haven't made it

>>60597146That's also a big issue too is that the used car market sucks. For a lot of people the older version of their car is still somewhat expensive, so they just say fuck it and buy new.

I love cars, but I also love a lot of other things I won't get myself in debt over just becauae I like it more pretty. Especially as an european where you do not drive as long distances as the burgers. People are just retarded, they do what other people do.

>>60598140You need a car in most places in America. It's a huge country. But what you don't need is luxury car. A used reliable Honda or Toyota gets people anywhere they need to go and isn't going to destroy your future.

>>60596081Correct, and showing you're not broke is super important for proles. I've been researching this shit, and I've come to realize that the amount of problems some new cars can have and the scams repair shops pull on people means you have to know what you are getting into or do a lot of research to buy a new car, or simply buy an old car and make sure to have someone who knows his shit to help with that.
am I right? if so, I don't think I'll be buying a new car until I learn a lot more about cars...

I once just got 3k worth of work done and someone fucking hit my car in the parking lot. After that I vowed to never put a dime more in a car than I need to get from A to B. My father in law just got some 100k electric Jeep thing and you should see him Park a mile away from everyone taking up 3 spots so nobody dings his overpriced metal box.
True wealth is pulling into the parking garage at work with the biggest piece of shit in the entire building, where there is nothing anyone can do to bring you down, and they all have to be nervous around you.
>>60597061it's show off cars mostly. I knew guys who lived in shitty apartments and sold weed for like 1500 a month, yet drove bmws. It's always dads money or a fucking insane amount of debt behind it. one of those guys was spending 60% of what he made just on car payments, the car would never be sold for what he paid, its literally just to get pussy. bmws drivers specifically, are 80% people who want to look rich but aren't, then some semi rich foreigners. rich people wouldn't buy a generic storeroom white bmw. >"UHHH IM ACKTUALLY SO RICH I GET A NEW ONE EVERY 2 YEARS"Okay, buy that one as well. now you have two cars. Loans are good only for certain things. If you take out a mortgage on a house, you now have an investment. leasing or loaning a car is retarded. pay its price and look after it, that's the best choice
>>60600148I donโt care, itโs the convenience of being able to just walk in and sign a lease and not deal with title work, registration, etc
When I lease I sign up for the whole package, they even do the maintenance, I just want a working car, honestly I would just rent but most rentals donโt let you tow
When did /biz/ become a board to brag about how frugal you are and how much you pinch pennies? Are we gonna have a thread about coupon clipping next?

If it has already done the bulk of its depreciation itโs not the worldโs worst idea if you need a car. Buy a good $20k old but classic (Iโm talking future classic) one and you should be able to sell it for at or near the same price that you got it
>>60600160>"well yeah of course I pay marked up goy prices all the time and potentially forever. Why would I ever want to own the car?".I already said it, truly wealthy people would buy the car and then pay someone else to look after it. you're just a retard with your money, and have been conned into funneling it away from you. >>60600160I'm not gonna judge how you spend your money, but your logic isn't checking out.
Signing a lease is just barely less effort that doing title and registration, its not even a consideration for me because its so simple.
And if you want, you CAN have your dealership doing all the work on your car for you too.

>>60599986>HOW DARE YOU NOT CONSOOOOOMEGo back to Instagram
>>60600299I think leasing is dumb, but there is a specific demographic who it makes sense for. There are people like that anon who want a new luxury car every 2 or 3 years, and don't mind having car payments. For them paying 20k-30k for a lease over a few years is better than being stuck with negative equity on a car they no longer want. I'm not saying it's smart, but if you want to drive a Masarati or Bentley that's worth 120k MSRP for a few years a lease might be better.
It really only makes sense if you're determined to make poor financial decisions in order to look wealthy. Which as you know, a lot of people are.

>>60600413I'm not saying he isn't retarded, but 100k over 10 years is literally nothing. I spend that much money on video games and I have plenty to spare.
I think at the end of the day its about how you view the purchase. I personally see my car as a depreciating asset and liability, while others see it as a form of entertainment or a hobby
>>60596081Lol I am an engineer and still drive the 2002 Camry that my grandfather gave me as my first car 11 years ago.
>>60600430$100k in dividend stocks is $1 million dollars in 30 years. Don't be stupid anon. No car is worth $1 million
>>60600430There's no way you're spending that much on video games unless you're whaling HARD on pay to win games and gachashit
>>60600434Same, but my Camry is from fucking 1997 and it won't die.
>>60600438You can use the same logic for almost any purchase and at the end of the day you end up old with more money than you can reasonably spend. As long as you aren't doing this with everything and you understand the "risks" its fine. Stupid, but fine.
But im driving a 97 camry and I dont view cars as entertainment and I have enough in the market that I can retire in luxury in a few years.
>>60600443I don't play gachas because I dont gamble.
$1000 / $60 = 16.66 games a year. But once you account for hardware upgrades, controllers, that comes down to a lot less games.
>>60596015Agreed, but car loans are retarded. Save up money for a bit and use it as collateral against a box spread instead. If you don't have $20K of collateral, you don't have the money for a car to begin with and should use public transportation.
Don't. Live. Beyond. Your. Means.
>>60598695> Lots of normies are status conscious and so will spend even when it hurts. This. People have very powerful egos and are prideful. To them staying financially weak is a better alternative to driving a used 10 year old Jap car.
I laugh so hard when I see normies driving some nice new car. Total rubes. Itโs a horrifically stupid idea to be spending hundreds a month on a depreciating asset if you donโt have tens of thousands invested already. Someone whoโs still paying off a 60 month lease for a new car bought in 2021 could have bought a Corolla for a few grand and put the monthly payment money into Bitcoin and be loaded
>>60600718100k on games over 10 years is 10,000 / 60 = 167 games per year. Unless you're saying you spend 9k on hardware per year, which would basically mean building a NASA computer from the ground up every single year, then there's no way you're spending that much on games. I buy basically whatever I want on steam and upgrade every few years, and I barely spend 500 on a liberal year.
>>60599387Except I am not.

I bought a rear fender and a pair of headlights from a junkyard and repaired it for like $300 total.
It literally costs nothing to run. Once I get rich, I might buy something nice, but till then, no effing way.
>>60596081I walk through one of the most expensive neighborhoods in my entire country to get to work everyday, half the cars parked there are econoboxes.
>>60596584It's possible because she isn't planning on paying it (which is priced in prolly).
Instead of buying a car, I went and worked overseas for a contracting company that paid for my housing and transport. I did that for 10 years, invested and bought crypto, then "retired" at 35 (not really, just dont need to work anymore and unsure what venture to engage in).
Car/housing/etc are all designed to keep you poor and in your cage. You can make the right play to get massively disposable income to buy assets and make risky investments when you are young.
Every dollar you spend on rent of repaying loans is a dollar you miss out on pumping into markets.
You can go work on a fishing boat or mining site, something like that also and achieve the same amount of disposable income, with no degree and no experience.
Housing + transport covers = financial freedom by your 30's.

>>60601259I work a travel job myself, if you can get something that pays well, (+50k minimum) and has minimal costs associated with housing and energy, shit is so cash. Someone else is paying for your food, shelter, utilities, etc. (((Banks))) target housing and autos because it's necessary to have those things to survive in most of the US. If you can get away with not paying bills, not consoooming and having a good paying job, you can get loads of cash in just 5 years. Whether you toss that magic 100k number into the markets or just buy property and cars outright in cash is up to you, but if you got nowhere to be and nothing better to do, look for that type of work. As tempted as I am to not rent ASAP, if I took a 30 year instead of saving cash, I'd spend an extra 20 years at most being in the cagie than if I had just saved. And you don't even need to save in cash either. This isn't to say there's never any wisdom in loans, but to check your desire at the door before you flock off to someone who will put you in bondage in exchange for material wealth. Does it make sense? For cars, almost never.
God knows what's with your personal life if any of this sounds appealing, but...we're here for money, not life fulfillment. Once you can cover your butt when it comes to the costs of living, you can "buy" more freedom from the system.
>>60600051lol no, its just a slightly polished Honda lol
>>60601728That's the appeal of premium brands like Acura, Lexus, Genesis, etc. You get the reliability of the parent company with the extra luxury/performance features of the higher end brand. Are you just now figuring this out?
>>60596038How'd you find a car that runs for a grand?
Around me, you can't find shit under $7k without going to facebook marketplace and looking at rusted out shitboxes that won't pass inspection and reek of cigarettes.
>>60598695> Of course they only impress other normies. We're just deluding ourselves to pretend that's not important though. You don't need a luxury car, although it is kind of nice, but if your car looks like a beater and you're over the age of 30, everyone will judge you for it. It's like dressing like a slob vs being somewhat put together looking.
That said, you don't need to drop $20k+ on one. You can buy a 10 year old used luxury car for nearly the same price as a non-luxury car of the same type with the same mileage, and nobody except car fanatics will know the difference.
Also, if you drive a lot, why not? When your car's embarrassing, it brings you down a little every time you get in it. When it's nice, it's the opposite effect. It's like wearing your best clothes vs. something ratty and fits you awkwardly.
>>60595963 (OP)No car payments since 2015, never bought a car worth more than 3000$, I saved over 50k doing this, if you are dumb enough to be unable to maintain a shitbox so you can keep more money in your pocket, therefore being able to invest your money, you're a real brokie, look for cheap rare pearl for cars, don't buy anything over 5k for your first car and always pay cash. The total jewery that are car dealers with a 20-50% markup, its all bullshit and dream. Drive a cheap reliable used car.
>>60599133New cars are generally one of the worst purchases you can make.
Go used 100%.
Mileage and apparent condition is more important than the year of the car. How high is too high really depends on the car and the make.
A Toyota with 150k miles in good shape is probably a better buy than a Nissan with 75k.
But the basics of any car are you want to test drive it, then pull over somewhere to check how much rust it has under the car. Open the hood, check for corrosion and rust, feel the belts to make sure they're firm but not too brittle and don't have any cracks in them, make sure there's signs of fluid leaking anywhere.
>>60600111I don't either, I just wanted an SUV. Was hoping for a 10ish year old Toyota Highlander, considering a Subaru Forester, then came across a Mercedes GLK in great shape lower mileage than I was expecting to buy, so for an extra $1500, why not?
Drives nice, leather seats, emblem that either impresses normies or makes them seethe (I get off a little on both). And at $11k it was still a cheaper car than the average one on the road.
>>60602343>don't buy anything over 5k Have you bought lately? 5k is like the floor for something that runs at all now. Sub 10k is the new inexpensive car.
>cars invented
>become a symbol of freedom allowing people to meet with each other and participate in activities over larger distances than ever before
>internet gets invented
>now people can talk and do stuff together from their own home
>instant access to information and services from around the world, not just in driving distance
The freedom that was once embodied by cars is gone, subsumed by the internet. all that's left is the rotting infrastructure built during the automobile golden age and a culture of car obsession that is gradually being left in the past.

>>60600280Why? Why do you need a 50,000 dollar car? A car is, first and foremost, a vehicle, it's a tool you use to get from point a to point b and back again. Unless you're a multimillionaire with mountains of disposable income, the only thing you should be considering in a vehicle is its dependability and how cheap it is to repair. There's so many more useful things that could be done with that money, or just keeping yourself out of debt. The kind of people who would be attracted to you in one way or another for having a "nice" car, are not the kind of people you would want in your life anyway.

Pretty pure driving experience. I go full autismo meltdown every time I drive my mom's newer car and it beeps at me every time someone passes or vibrates the wheel when crossing lane lines. Honestly, all the safety shit feels unsafe to me at this point.
The EPA stuff causes manufacturers to make cars shittier too. Auto start stop wears your shit down faster. Then you have shit like toyota axing v6 tacomas for 4cyl turbo only. Also EGR on diesel engines cause carbon buildup in your engine and fuck your shit up. Then you have 10k intervals and thinned out 0w20 being the standard nowadays. I imagine cars built in the last 10 years making it to 200k miles will be rare.

I've lived that life, having a repair cost more than the worth of the actual car is soul crushing.

For some unknown reason, even though it does not affect them at all, even if they have zero money they personally put in themselves, women just HAVE to pressure the family, whether the dad or the husband, into new vehicles. I cannot fathom it. I have to fight off all my family members every year asking why I'm still driving civic shitboxes when they run clean, and any maintenance issues that pop up from the nature of the cars just being old, the cost is much much cheaper than any monthly payment would do. Not to mention, how much cheaper insurance is, registration, and general replacement costs.
I refuse to buy a new vehicle so long as the price of fixing a 90s civic is cheaper than any car payment, and I refuse to have any tablet, camera, blindspot nonsenes, automated window, or anything of the sort in my car.
