exactly this. but not like Ulysses or Sound and the Fury which had unique and inventive prose and writing, but more like... wtf did i just read. It oscillates between absurd and insightful, probably like his own life.

The message in it was actually very insightful, but the author could not heed his own advice

Every person I know who likes DFW is a depressed loser.*
His own advice was stupid nonsense.
I've ever read "IJ" but I read some of his other writing. I didn't hate it but I didn't see what the big deal was.
People need a savior.
I've seen interviews with him and he says a lot of stuff that seems good on the surface, but his underlying principles are all wrong, so of course eventually he was going to go way off track, just like most of his fanboys.
Academia loves him. What does that tell you?

*I'm fully willing to believe that you guys here who like this book are not depressed losers. If so, you're the exception to the rule. Good for you. Everyone else I know who likes this book is a miserable deluded hipster p.o.s.

Good assessment. I loved this book when I was a depressed, fresh out of university loser. When I try to reread it now that life is better, it's not as captivating. The humor is good, the prose is interesting, the form and content are still relevant to the world outsidr, but it feels like a work of hopeless onanistic rumination above all else. As such it's effective art, but art that begs any healthy person to move on.

I come here because I have hope. I’m optimistic, have made big wins in the past, and live to make big gains in the future. I have a screenshot somewhere from the top in 2021: it was some anon from another board asking how in the fuck /biz/ was the only positive board when the rest of the boards were shit and the world was a dystopian nightmare. It was because despite all the BS happening in the world, we were making money.

I basically love every second I’m alive, even when it absolutely sucks lol. Glad you added that last part. I’ve been sober in AA for 14 years and sobriety and AA in particular is a big part of the book. Probably the most accurate depiction of addiction in any media that I’m aware of. As for the academia thing, even a broken clock is right twice a day. They like him, but begrudgingly because he was in many ways kind of a fucked up dude. There was an incident where he told a black student that she couldn't write in ebonics and she called him racist and tried to sue the school and he probably mildly stalked a female author who he was obsessed with so he generally gets a lot of flak from leftists in general but they can’t deny that he was a brilliant author. Idk, I can just kind of relate to him too, he was a precocious child who grew disillusioned with the world as he got older and drowned it out by drinking in front of the TV for a decade.

I’m also not saying you’re wrong. I would never admit that this is my favorite book irl because the vast majority of people who claim to like it never finished it and, even if they did, don’t understand it. I’m not ashamed but I don’t want to have to interface with any of those people if I don’t have to.

There will be no "alt season" because the money flowing into Bitcoin is coming from people who aren't fucking stupid, unlike the shitcoin retards who never met a "project" or a "memecoin" or a "rugpull" that they didn't thrown themselves on like an infantryman diving onto a grenade.
