What should I do my doctorate in?
I have an associates, bachelors, and masters degree in mechanical engineering and a MBA.
I work as an early level engineer making 115k in a LCOL area with only 3yoe.
I am currently 95%+ allocated to XRP.

I'm currently split between a PhD in Systems Engineering or a DBA. Any other doctoral majors worth considering?
It'll be fully sponsored by my employer. Looking mostly for something with an online option if possible.

so afterward will you be bound into a slave contract for your employer?

Technically yes, but my tenure applies to the contract length so I'd be past any requirements by the time I complete the program.

Idk, I've been wanting one in physics for a while because being an engineer makes me feel like a midwit.

No, what benefit do I get from lying about it? Manufacturing roles have been boosting pay ever since Trump started talking tariffs on the campaign trail. I'm at a tier 1 HVAC place and we struggle to keep people because competitors are aggressively poaching from each other. I just kept asking for raises whenever someone left and they kept giving it to me.

I guess my alternative is to take the PE exam since I have an EIT. So maybe I do that first and jump ship to one of the data center HVAC roles that pay 150-200k+
Or I guess I could do something thermal/HVAC related for the PhD side. Idk.

Business schools recently started launching the DBA as a means to make PROFIT. If you choose that path, you had better make sure you get it from an AACSB accredited program.
The PhD is a more prestigious degree but it will require more work. The DBA is kind of like the EdD but made for industry. I consider these degrees to be a "minor" doctorate
>t. did a LOT of research and was admitted to inaugural year of the executive DBA program at University of Houston, but chose not to attend.

How come americans are so poor? I'm a swedish nurse making 90k per year but expenditures for my whole family is like 30k a year with 2 cars. Sure we don't go eat goyslop often but make all meals at home. But being Swedish means I get "free" Mohammad and Jamal on top of free education and healthcare for my kids. Been sick for 2 weeks which will cost me 20% of my income those weeks, but I still get 80% being on here talking to american engineers. But you have a much higher cost of living than I do. When did americans get poor?

USA is a consumer-maxxed society driven by debt, everyone here is conditioned to be a debt slave so everyone is leveraged to the hilts. By the way a DBA at most schools will set you back a cool $100K over the course of 3 years, more opportunity for the ((bankers)) to fest even more on a new, middle-class, productive category of debt slaves.

But I do have debt, 20k USD on the house, interest is 480 USD a year. If I had debt maxxed straight out of college then I would have been much richer today, nowadays I don't know. I have a rental, 400k in PMs, no stocks and that's stupid but everything is overpriced or I'm clueless. Anyhow, time to sleep my pneumonia away. I'd rather kill myself than do a PhD though, then again engineering PhDs might not suck, are they very practical or purely academic?

The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

As are all countries in the so-called "West."

PhD is the standard requirement for a professorship, you can get a job teaching with a DBA but you won't be considered for tenure, it would also be considered supplemental to your activities as a business executive. Also available in the US are the DEng and DTech degrees which are meant for Engineering and Techie professionals who are looking to earn a minor doctorate. For me personally, I plan to earn a DBA and go back to teaching college in East Asia somewhere around the 5 year time horizon.

Doctorates of any kind is necessary for many research and govt roles. US is heavy on arbitrary credentialism for many roles even if its not necessarily needed for it. In govt roles its impossible to be considered without it since govt HR only looks at every checkbox being marked off, they don't use critical thinking at all. But those roles pay stupidly high amounts relative to the type of work being done.

I didn't expect too much from the thread but this is still disappointing. Seems like every day anons are bragging about their doctorates and yet not one doctorate pops in here. Guess the whole board is larping.

Sorry I am but a mere double master's holder. But it seems like degrees are almost becoming meaningless in 2025.
