How did you with your superior intellect get groomed at such a young age where hard work and failure were mutually exclusive? Is it when you are 60k in debt with no job offers that you finally realized it? Book smarts can only get you so far and the world has ran out of participation trophies.

i'm tired of seeing people bitch about how educated they are. i have zero degrees. how do you think i feel? women like smart men. at least you get to walk around telling girls you have a fancy sounding degree in a complicated discipline. that makes their panties wet.

what do i have? a high school level education. society considers you functionally retarded with just that level of education. at least OP is considered sentient.

I have the same degree. I remember I came to a soul crushing realization my senior year in college. All my professors for upper level engineering classes were Asian guys and I couldnโ€™t understand them so Iโ€™d try to go on YouTube to find lecturers.

Every last piece of content uploaded on YouTube about any of those upper level courses was uploaded by some Indian guy. Every single one. I never saw a single white male talking about things like heat transfer, it was all Indians. It was then I knew I made a grave mistake, but I was so far in I couldnโ€™t turn back.

That was in 2019, Iโ€™ve worked full time as a Mech E for 6 years and itโ€™s genuinely awful. Shit pay, long hours, no opportunities.

It's this you get sucked into the black hole of textbooks and school and high grades. It's diminishing returns, you can only make grade A, max 100%, but you have to put in so much more work then a student who gets a B.

When what you really need to do is scroll job listings on Indeed and look at what jobs are actually hiring and what tools they actually use.
And realize that mechanical engineering companies in U.S. haven't hired white men for over 10 years. At least the boomers are starting to leave though.

here i am now 30+, unemployed, and almost always get ignored when applying for jobs. it's been many years since i got the degree. even someone with a CS degree got screwed back then, imagine how much worse it is today, it was probably 1 of the reasons i stopped considering going back for a CS degree. today its like indians, asians, and women flooding the field, what chance will i have in a few years?

It lats a lot longer that. Even if you develop success without degree, it continues to haunt you in other ways, eg not having one will be treated as a negative if you want to live in a different country. Unless you have serious money you will be pegged as working rather than middle class and many doors will be automatically closed to you. The older you get the more visible those closed doors become and it becomes exponentially harder to pry them open.

I did this too and I know someone else in your exact position (are you on a working holiday in Costa Rica rn lol) but it's not sustainable.
I gave up my unstable but satisfying creative career and ended up getting completely stuck, albeit with some external negative life events that had medical and psychological impact.
starting over post-divorce and plus inheritance, but I basically wasted 15 years although I did acquire a lot of technical skills/experience but not much value on paper. I am not enjoying the need to make up a new personal narrative to give my life the appearance of normality.
