ETFs have been buying 30k bitcoin a month where miners are only capable of mining 10k new bitcoin in the same time period
ETFs are obliged by law to carry the underlying asset so they MUST buy
>but what if the price goes up? is there no price sensitivity?
yes, actually, only not the way you think. People who put money into ETFs aren't "buying", they're "investing"
The price going up actually encourages more people to invest, which forces the ETFs to buy more bitcoin
This doesn't even touch on all of the tech companies adding BTC to their treasuries
So what happens if I, ETF <A> want to buy more bitcoin? I'm already buying more than the miners can mine so where does it come from?
HODLrs and whales mostly, but they also see the price going up
>but why NOW? why not a month ago?
for whatever reason, some HODLrs and whales were ok selling their bitcoin for $107k. Maybe they needed to make rent or buy a house in Jackson Hole. Who the fuck knows? But at some point you run out of those people who are fine selling for $107k and you're just left with people who believe it will go to $1M and they're fine waiting until it does

Yes. What we're seeing now is a cascade of shorts getting liquidated. $120K was a major betting point for the shorts, with $1.5B of shorts getting rekt if BTC broke that level. Now that it has, those are getting wiped out, and the people who positioned their shorts a little higher are now also getting rekt.

It's going to be the same sort of cascade that saw BTC jump to $116K once it solidly broke $111K. Can't say how much higher it will go, but we're going to see some serious shit.

I sold 0.01 at $107.5K because I'm traveling and was running out of cash. I'll be selling another 0.01 in the next couple of days, whenever I can make it to the exchange again.

I'm largely price-insensitive at this point. I paid about US$3 for each 0.01 BTC ($300 per whole BTC). I literally turned US$3000 into US$1,100,000 (because I sold some along the way for living expenses).

For the last couple of years, weekends are when we've been able to have huge rallies, because hedge funds aren't at work to short into the uptrend. We've also frequently seen Friday afternoon dumps as the hedge funds shorted massively to kill spirits over the weekend.

I'm in much the same boat but I have other income streams and I'm hoping that Lumis will pass some bitcoin de minimis law so I can just spend it directly without paying taxes
that would be ideal. still feels silly to spend because I don't need it right now and I'm certain it will eventually reach $1M

monday dumps aren't unheard of as some people do profit taking from the ETFs so you see some outflows
it's dumb though. if you "own" bitcoin through an ETF, you have at most 2x'd your money
if you have to use an ETF just leave it there and forget about it for 10 years
