>he is a consultant (attending) anaesthetist who graduated from Oxford medical school and is financially motivated, I'd guess he is mid forties
>he didn't say his net worth but has mentioned before that he is not a millionaire

Anyone else just not get shit like this? He is really smart, ambitious, great personality but is absolutely broke. I can't but wonder am I a literal genius, (doubt it) is it all luck, (doubt it) or is there some other factor...

Another one was a renowned surgeon I worked with a couple years ago, everyone mentioned he had a Bentley which was the 2011-2018 continental. Yes it is a nice car by normalfag standards but bro was 50+ surely it is just normal to drive a brand new Rolls Royce, Ferrari, Bentley etc at that age if you are highly intelligent. I just don't get it.

He’s broke because his whole profession is based on not creating any wealth or opportunity, just gatekeeping access to treatment/drugs. Most smart people could become doctors, they artificially create demand by putting barriers to entry (in the UK it’s having to have 3-4 A levels as well as a bunch of irrelevant ‘experiences’ like volunteering in a hospital, UCAT/BMAT, interviews). Medical school itself is just a 3 year long cramming basic physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry with some multiple choice answer tests in between 2 years are spent doing meaningless bullshit like community placements, shadowing etc.) - without this doctors would literally be a dime a dozen.

Now with AI a doctors position is directly in the firing line, AI can diagnose with greater accuracy and create treatment plans tailored to each patient in a fraction of the time a primary care physician can.

Doctoring is going to become a completely vocational profession within a decade, mark my words.

>whole profession is based on
>gatekeeping access to treatment/drugs
You just triggered an extreme hatred I've been brewing against the entire medical industry.

It's just a giant gatekeeping industry, locking everything behind prescription, that you can't get without their permission. And by getting the full power of the government behind them, arresting people practicing without a license or anyone selling prescription drugs without a prescription.

I once literally googled my symptoms and knew what medicine I needed, and also knew that the doc will still need a blood test before prescribing anything.
- I tried going to the lab itself to get that specific blood test, but they wouldn't do it without a doctor's request.
- So I get an appointment with a doctor, and he's 3 hours late, spends another 30 minutes chatting up a nurse at reception even though he's already late (and I can overhear it's not even work related, literally just flirting).
- Then he spends literally only 30 seconds listening to me and writing the request for the lab test, all while acting grumpy like I owe it to him to take up his precious time, and I'm charged the full hundred bucks consultation fee just for him taking a few seconds to write a lab test request
- Finally I get my lab results, bring it back, and he is over 2 hours late again. Finally he spends like 30 seconds looking thru the results, writes a prescription (the exact medicine which google ALREADY told me before everything), and he shoos me away like he's extremely annoyed I even had to ask him, and slaps another hundo for consultation fees.

This entire system is garbage. They are all extremely elitist, acting like they are a gift to mankind, and as shown by ubiquitous complaints about late doctors, have no respect for people's times.

>Irrelevant 'experiences' like volunteering in a hospital

I firmly believe they do this to indoctrinate medical practitioners into their elite circle, so they all act elitist towards patients. Hence why "interns" are given insane 24 hour shifts, just like frats have initiation rites. The harder the initiation rites the harder the trauma bond is and the elitism, like how frats that beat up neophytes and sometimes even brand them tend to look down on anyone not in their brotherhood, and politicians and judges etc in the same frat tend to look out for each other and foster corruption.

Just look at other trades, people tend to call out shoddy work. A software developer will call out trash code written by another dev. An electrician will point out dangerous hacks done by a slipshod worker before him. BUT in the medical industry, they all cover for each other. They're all "Listen to your doctor, he knows best. Don't google your symptoms"

I've seen a senior doctor make a wrong diagnosis to my friend, and every other doctor in that hospital refused to go against his diagnosis. He went to another hospital, searching for a differing 2nd opinion, got one, then the doctor learned of the first opinion, which was from a doctor that was a professor in his alma mater university, suddenly he doubled back on his diagnosis.

Another friend I had, he said his dad went in for a leg infection, he was strong and running when he went in the hospital, but it just got worse until they intubated him, and he couldn't breathe but no one would listen to the kid, and he died suffocating, but they wrote in the cause of death that he had pneumonia.

These clowns will cover for each other because their entire practice is just a giant gatekeeping industry, so none of them can be allowed to look bad, unlike other professions where bad work is called out instantly.

Do you know what they call a doctor who got C- in all major subjects and barely passed everything, failing his subjects and repeating them the most times allowed, and finally barely graduating? DOCTOR

They can't discredit him, he's one of their gatekeepers

>Now with AI a doctors position is directly in the firing line

I want AI to replace doctors as much as you, but I can't see it. Not until we repeal all the gatekeeping laws, the license requirement to practice, the requirement of prescription for certain drugs, even more so controlled ones.

Just google alone could simply replace their entire profession otherwise, barring practices that actually involve physical skill like surgery.

Until something that can bypass them completely and they can't do anything about it is invented, the laws will protect their practice, they've already grown too powerful. Until something like nanomachines that can treat you is invented, that can download updates for new treatments, and do something like 3d print medicine compounds straight in your bloodstream from basic blocks like basic amino acid packets, so you can completely bypass them all and just download updates and buy generic building blocks, I don't see them getting dethroned easily if at all.

All the billions of dollar corporations that have control over the regulatory and bureaucratic pipeline are just going to stop and give up control because... they just will ok??
lmao I love you guys, so smart and insightful and optimistic, able to correctly identify the problem (captured industry), and identify how AI solves part of it (bypass industry for very accurate and cheap diagnoses), and yet not understanding that it changes nothing with the power dynamics of the entire situation (it remains a captured industry).
All that will happen is we'll get some tools to make doctor's lives easier, and if we're lucky a few billionaires will try to launch some startups, but it will all be regulated to oblivion to prevent any real disruption.

One major reason I see is getting into financial products is relatively new for non-finance people, and these days it's basically required.
Those that do benefit greatly, those that just don't think about it or just put money into retirement accounts without any thought or risky investments, they end up just growing slowly over time and not making very much outside their salary until their 50s and 60s.

Another idea I have to completely disrupt them is of someone who shares the same contempt for them somehow got into power.

Like imagine if Elon ended up as president, but then he suddenly decides that software products can also gain the same "medical license" if written under the guidance of a medical professional. The suddenly we can have home robots doing diagnosis and printing out valid prescriptions, I'm calling it the Tesla Cyberdoctor, or maybe Tesla DoctorX.

I wonder if he will get the Boeing whistleblower treatment. Which is more powerful, the POTUS seat or the multi-billion dollar pharma corpos?

That's a timeline I'd definitely like to see, but sadly it's a pipe dream. These billionaires all cover for each other as well.

>software products can also gain the same "medical license" if written under the guidance of a medical professional
Feel like that would just create a new level of credentialism where you require both a doctor+software engineering degree to write the code, demanding a heavy salary just to get a checkbox for the bureaucracy.
>These billionaires all cover for each other as well.
I wouldn't say they cover for each other, except in cases of blackmail, but they certainly know not to step on each other's toes when it comes to business.

It's all pretty frustrating because when we look at how efficient everything could be, at every level there's a growing middle-man bureaucracy taking a large cut of money and demanding more attention. Housing, healthcare, insurance, in academia it's school administrators, even at the municipal level they're require more and more money for worse service.
Despite all the gains in technology and automation and computers, productivity has never been so high, but all the gains goes to supporting this middle-management tier of do-nothings, where we have this people-level parasitism that keeps growing and slowing everything down, and no amount of technology seems capable of changing it because they have an outsized influence on the levers of power.

It's not that hard to believe, crypto has insane upside, I was sitting on 800k in 2017 in my mid 20s just from going all in on a single coin that took off. Of course I held as it crashed so I didn't walk away rich, but even in my early 30s I'm back up to 900k and half of that is from putting a small percent of my investments in crypto.
