I have 5 figs and if I sell a couple of things I could retire, although the reason I keep working is because it gives me a certain purpose
Sometimes when people tell you that you're doing a good job, it can make you feel really good too, I even bet on things like shido sometimes to remember the old days
Even if you have everything, if you don't do anything meaningful you'll end up getting depressed

They started getting super cocky around the mid to late 2010's. Not too long ago it was just nerdy people who liked computers. Then it turned into people making $200k to do nothing talking down to people with real jobs. The total complicity with globohomo and the strange cultish messiah complex they recently developed doesn't help either.

I don't like what happened to the tech job-market, but if there was ever an industry that deserved to be humbled, it was tech. Money-chasing workers producing valueless slopware.

most of the techfags bragging about their WFH donothing jobs during the pandemic still have their jobs. It's the juniors that are facing an impossible hiring situation.
I say this as a techfag with a donothing WFH tech job that has a younger brother who put in significantly more effort than me. He lives at home, doing temp contracts with the hopes that he can land on something more permanent.

Art history majors give up quickly and work other jobs immediately, or continue doing art on the side while working part time.

Computer science majors have a lot more pride in their education, so they spend way more time applying for work as an unemployed person, and finally give up and work "lower" jobs many years after art grads.

Immensely satisfying watching these fags get BTFO. No other group swallowed and promulgated the corporate propaganda that only the hard sciences and maximising salary/profit mattered for society. Now they're being absolutely gutted by this same mentality as companies bring in jeets and AI to replace them.

I have a job, and got one relatively easy after my education
Very confident that AI won't replace me, because it is by all means an actual science. AI doesn't write efficient code, and telling it "hey optimize this code for X CPU architecture" when the codebase is millions of lines doesn't really help
Only the low-end generic software dev jobs are actually threatened by AI because those don't require thought, and the quality of code can be dogshit

Philosophically speaking there isn't one, we work because we live in a society that does not permit us to live without working
The only difference between capitalism and communism is that under communism they shoot you for not working instead of waiting for you to starve to death
this unnecessary expenditure of ammunition is why communism is generally held to be the less efficient economic model

It gives a human some core-value, in the bible it says โ€œWhatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.โ€. I always thought that an honest, hard work makes a human filled with more value, even more if you are a man.

To support humanity. Every job plays a role in keeping our world going, in one way or another. If people did not work, humanity would collapse. Work is one of the most important and fundamental experiences in the human condition. Its why so many die soon after they retire. I'm content with my comfy WFH job responding to a few emails a day and having 10 weeks of paid leave, I honestly think I have it better and in easy mode compared to my ancestors.

Tips for those trying to make it in tech: hone your soft skills. network. present at conferences as often as you can. yes you have to know the technicals but in the age of Copilot etc that's a lot less important than being likable and keeping the spaghetti in your pockets.
