like ok it costs 20 dollars for a scratcher and my odds of winning are 1/3.47.
so if i buy 4 that would be 80 bucks but i win like 100k. how is that bad?? you hear people win all the fucking time.

You are a degenerate gambler, but not as bad as people who hold altcoins.

the term you're looking for is expected value. the expected value of a 20 dollar ticket is probably between 5 and 10 dollars, which means if you bought every single ticket and got every single payout one ticket for 20 would return between 5 and 10 dollars.

your total odds of winning anything might be 1 in 3.5, your odds of winning 100k are nothing near that. Im making this up because i have no idea how scratchers pay but i assume its like every other lotto

winning 2 50% (of all winners)
winning 10 35% (again of all winners)
winning 25 10% of all winners

so math it out, 1 in 3.5 to pay anything but of those odds 95% of them pay less 25 dollars or less.

lottos are actually pretty honest about their odds, its a government requirement for them to be posted. look up the odds to win 100k in your state.

Scratchers are superior to investing simply for their exposure to tail end probabilities

There is no investment in the world that can return 100k for 20$

I know this thread is full of trolls but unironically just using scratch offs as a gift or fun thing to socialize with someone makes it worth it. Pretty fun telling a friend to scratch one for you (assuming they don't run away with any possible profits)

lottery is just retard tax, getting a short term dopamine paper ticket which allows your brain to daydream a bit about the "what if" and that's it

the probability of any big win is so absurdly small that you have way better chances degen gambling max x125 leverage on some dumb shitcoin if you already want to burn money away
