Full rigs with 1200w psu and 6 RX470s each. I haven't mined since the old doge days where you could get millions from a single shitty gpu, so I figured I should try it out and later on I can sell the rigs for about the same price I paid for them.

Has anyone here tried mining exclusively new coins as a kind of gamble? How logistically would you go about it to make it as hassle-free as possible? Obviously there's no point mining buttcoins or established coins with commercial hash rates being thrown at them from areas with nearly free electricity.

good job you got baited into buying tech that's not almost useless.
what fucking hope do you have of getting a block reward these days? there are firms with thousands of your setup running in parallel.

My thinking is: try mining brand new coins as a gamble, and then resell them or the parts for a similar price if it's not worth it at all

Maybe convert one to an AI server running 3-4 GPUs for API selling purposes

That's not a bad idea. Had a lot of fun setting up and playing with a totally uncensored AI, but 99% of people don't have the skills or willingness to do all the setup

It's not worth it specifically for how volatile GPU mining is, but that doesn't mean it's impossible. You should probably start looking into whattomine.com.

GPU mining won't go away perse but don't expect more than 2 dollars from your rig everyday before accounting for electrical costs.

All in all youll make less than 1000 per year but why not? If you had 100 GPUs then you would be making 15 dollars a day.

A lot of models claim to be uncensored I noticed but they choke out very easily. Roci was the only one I found (so far) that's totally off the rails no matter what

if you had 200 of those GPUs in a shed and leased commercial electricity with cheap rates you could theoretically pocket 10k USD per year.

I just checked and I pay $0.20 USD total per kwh after all taxes and grid fees, btw. How about you guys?

Current plan is to test some super early mining for new coins.

Medium term plan: sell rx470s for $10 ea, upgrade #1 with z790 mobo/13th gen intel cpu (have), 2-3 3090s and lease capacity on vast.ai,
upgrade #2 with various better gpus I have laying around and use it for my own AI purposes, hopefully make some paid services or APIs.

This. The average electricity bill is around $0.40/kwh here. Even taking that estimate for napkin math, there's no scenario where I can actually run even a mass-scale GPU mining operation and not be losing money on power bills.

steal a solar panel and inverter
or, run a very long extension cord from someone's house (some houses have external power jacks) into your house to steal their electricity.
free electricity, free money.

$0.20/kwh total after taxes, grid fees etc. I might be able to get it slightly lower, I just never considered it before because my electricity bill is so low

brother in christ that's not cheap electricity you're never gonna make a profit with that (unless some crazy gamble pays off) 0.10kwh are not profitable at the moment you need 0.8 to stay afloat
