1.) 51% is not sufficient to do serious harm, especially over the long term. You need way more than that.
2.) Nobody is going to waste resources worth tens of millions to flip some blocks.
3.) If it happens, the network will adjust and just wait for higher block confirmation times, until the hysteria calms down.
4.) The miner landscape changes all the time. Unlike PoS, PoW is an open system where gatekeeping cannot exist.
5.) ASICs cannot manipulate shit, they just compute hashes. ASICs do not know what transactions they operate over. ASICs only operate on block headers, which only contain a short proof of the transactions. Also, manufacturers would immediately kill their reputation.

Those are talking points from ~2013... so those people can have fun staying poor.
