the short answer to this question is that everyone understands that the financial situation is perilous in the future. we all perceive each day getting slightly poorer. starting a family is a something that inherently requires and implies stability. unless you have a good extended family around you to back you up it seems dodgy. Boomers are the senior generation and no one (correctly) trusts them to provide stability so everyone just has to figure it out on their own.
