I'm poor as fuck, but drive a Mercedes.
It's a 2012 with 95k miles on it, in great shape, generic looking SUV so it's not noticeably dated either. Cost me $11k. The floor for something with similar mileage that isn't rusted out or very high risk of being a lemon is like $9k.
I still get all the remarks as though I made some silly purchase, then when I get talking to people it turns out everyone else is taking out loans and paying substantially more for a nothing special car. Point is some people see a certain make and assume too much.
