As things stand with the current status quo, China stands a chance at beating us as a world power without directly confronting us, with enough time and soft power projection. The only countries that have an interest in a massive global war would be a country that has
a) no chance of defeating the US ever, and hold a grudge (third world)
b) near peer that feels cornered and/or is slowly bleeding as a society (Russia)
c) has nothing else to lose (Iran, NK?)
