It’s really no different than a commercial pilot running through checklists to troubleshoot issues in-flight. If you have an issue that doesn’t fit neatly into a box, 95% of doctors will just resort to the “refer you to a specialist” game, ad infinitum.
Jobs that require creativity are infinitely harder than that. That’s also why people who glorify running marathons or getting in decent shape aren’t really very impressive to me. I can go out and run ten miles right now no matter how bad I’m feeling. On the flip side, try doing something creative (back end coding, art, etc) when you’re really mad/depressed/tired - it’s fucking hell on earth.
Side note - if you are having serious and unsolvable medical issues, I can’t recommend enough that you go to a research university hospital. Only doctors I’ve ever met who actually used their brains.
