this-is-the-one-scene-that-i-think-about-all-the-time-jimmy-v0-xpcgrgaeiu291
Afternoon /biz/tards. Can someone please help me decide between two offers I received recently. Struggling to decide.

>AVP Quant Risk @ huge global investment bank
>70k
>3 days in office
9am-5:30pm

>Pricing Analyst @ mid-tier trading firm
>100k + avg. 20-40k bonus
>Fully on-site
>6:30am-5pm

I feel like short-term trading firm might be the better option, but long-term career prospects probably better with the investment bank.

Please note this is in Europoor currency so I know the salaries are laughable.

I'm not a finance fag so all I'll ask is whether those times are flexible or are these french bank-tier places with retarded fixed timings like the ancient boomer orgs they are.

With the trading firm the times are very much so rigid, since you have to be there before the euro market opens, and then stay on for while until the US market opens, preparing everything for the traders.

With the investment bank I imagine it will be more flexible, but I do not know to what degree, since it's mainly internal model development.

#2, easy. These jobs won't exist in two years. Ruin your body for this time, get the bonus twice. Pills if you must. Nattokinase keeps your blood flowing in 16 hour days. Negotiate some separation at the earliest chance. That's all you will ever get. Try to make contacts with the highest ranking people you can find during your time at that company. Go to events on the weekends if you can get an invitation. Don't be the noob there, just listen, be honest that you want to learn. Respect dress codes. Wear slight makeup in case your body becomes unsightly from the work. You can pay beauticians to show you how to get rid of eye shadows.

Both sound like they'd pass a minimal sensibility threshold check in terms of reasonableness and care for employees then (Reasonable to expect fixed timings for trading hours / More welfare for mo/bo work to retain talent)

I guess its down to whether you want to burn yourself out for 2- 5 years in exchange for more pay (and hopefully more worthwhile experience + knowledge) or enjoy life more with the loftier title (and maybe more high-level work to prepare for actual management responsibilities in a later promotion)
Regardless, good luck nigger

Consider the cost of 10.5 hours in the office vs 8.5 hours at home jerking off. How much are you spending on travel to the full work week job? How much would you have to give up regarding doctor's appointments etc for the in person job? Does the field allow you to leverage your knowledge to have two jobs ala contract work with the 3 day a week one? From an engineering perspective, risk management is always going to have a job and generally no one actually knows if you're doing it or not unless the factory blows up. I don't know how it works in finance or what the fuck those titles even mean though. Will you have a family at any near point in time or elderly parents to care for?
I'm a lazy intorverted fuck so anything that gets me out of the office is my immediate bias, and I have to be able to answer a lot of those type of questions positively to ever consider a fully in person position, past 60k usd the money really doesn't matter.

Sounds slightly unhinged but overall solid advice. Why do you suppose neither of these roles will exist in 2 years? AI?

>>60736918
M.Sc. in mathematical finance, and CFA. Honestly though if you come from any hard science, or engineering, could potentially get into one of these roles. The finance part is easy to pick up.

>>60736931
Honestly feel like the experience might actually be more worthwhile in the investment bank, the pricing analyst role seems like it will be quite repetitive, and could potentially become pidgeon holed in the realm of trading. The trading firm has more of a flat hierarchy, so less scope for promotions, but can obviously still get raises and higher bonuses. Thank you for the input brother.

>>60736937
Valid point, lots of costs to take into consideration and have to consider the fact that we get raped with tax here too. My current role pays like shit, but I can work 5 days a week from home mostly just jerking off with occasional work. I wouldn't mind coming back at a later stage in my career. I'm still young now though so feel like I might aswell go make some cash. The investment bank role would probably be better in terms of potential contract work later on. Commute won't be too bad with either as it's about a 20-30 min cycle.

Pricing analyst is a comfy role, and I believe most IB is being offshored, would highly recommend to come buy side for sure.

That second one is actually very good for euros. But make sure it's actually going to be a good amount more you're taking home after taxes cause I know you guys love to get raped by taxes. Use one of those online calculators for your country.
Like if it turns out the second one is only giving you an extra 15 thousand euros take-home salary then fuck that.

Yes main advantage is just being able to be approved for a higher mortgage. Marginal tax rate above 70k is about 52%. So unless the bonus is sizeable, difference in take home pay won't be that significant.

That's a tough one OP. I make 70k/yr and WfH 3 days/wk with 2 in-office. I wouldn't want to go into the office everyday for a measly 30k.

I would look into your career growth at the 70k/yr job. If you can grow your income easily and stay hybrid, I would do that. The QoL you get by being remote is damn near priceless.

Take the higher paying job and do it for no less than two years then convey that salary to a chiller job formless hours. Corporations only like to pay what you've made before. They think that's what you're worth. You have to try and get that number as high as possible early.

Samefagging to add that you can come into the bigger company at a higher salary if you do job #2 for a couple years first.

Are you just out of college? Have you done any internships?
If you're reasonably sure you'd be fine with the workload, maybe do the mid-tier firm for a few years, or however long it'd take to ride out your contract, then pivot over to AVP once you're financially stable. A lot of guys from my undergrad did that route.
